EILERS continued ed me to read a Bible story to them. At such a time the Christmas story would be appropriate. So that’s the one I read. When I had finished, they still weren’t satisfied and wanted to sing “ Silent Night” just once more. After that they went home. While all this was going on, Charlie had been unusually inter­ ested. He stayed through the whole affair. Of course, I didn’t know that God was beginning to answer my prayers as well as those that were going on in Charlie’s home back in Utah. Nor did I know that after we all went to bed Charlie had bor­ rowed my Bible, and in the dim light of the old kerosene lamp that hung on the bunkhouse wall, sat back of the big iron heater and read and read until something happened to him. Something wonderful. I had left a bookmark in the place where I had read the Christmas story. And that’s where Charlie started. He couldn’t understand why he wanted to read the Christ­ mas story over again and why he wanted to keep on reading the Bible. But the more he read the more fascinated he became. And the more he found out about Jesus, the more he wanted to know. And as he continued to read, a strangely warm feeling filled his heart. Suddenly he realized that everything was dif­ ferent.
