than' anything he had ever wanted to do in his life. So he rolled up his few belongings into his blan- kets, made a sort of pack for his back and started out even though the night looked stormy. As you can imagine, when Char lie was missing the next morning there was a lot of speculation as to what had happened and I became very much concerned. Snow was beginning to pile up into drifts and a real cold wind was blowing. I knew that Charlie was afoot and the way to town was a long hard walk. I had planned to go to Sage- ville in a day or two and then on into Cheyenne to buy some gifts for Melody and Happy. So even though the weather was bad, I de cided to go a few days early. Then too I knew that the Lord wanted me to find Charlie and help him. After breakfast I told Ned what I had been thinking and that if it was all right with him I’d like to take off for a couple of days. Within half an hour I had hitched a team to the buckboard. When he had left, Charlie had gotten along fine for about five miles. But by then the weather had begun to dim into what could be come a blizzard. Due to hurrying faster than was wise, he became exhausted, pushing his way into the storm. The wind went right through his clothes as if they were made of window screen. He finally unrolled his pack and wrapped the blankets around him, which kept him warm but made his going all the more dif-
