daily Pentecost number at first looks encouraging, on the ground that all these 3,000 daily joiners are true Chris tians. Alas, this Is not true! But America’s population is over 100.000. 000. With the average lifetime about 35 years it appears that 3,000,000 die annually and are replaced by anoth er more than 3,000,000 new born or im migrated. So it is evident, that, even with this optimistic report, the Church is only one-third efficient for the task set for it in America if the design of the Lord was to make every person in the world a Christian. As the Review goes on to say: “ While according to the most opti mistic estimate there may be only some 15.000. 000 Americans not in connection with any chu rch ............. there are 80,- 000,000 people in “ Christian” America who are not members of any evangeli cal church. Even with a million new members a year the Church of Christ will never complete the task of making America Christian. The only hope is a more perfect presentation o'f Christ, a greater manifestation of the power of God by the personal return of our Lord to subdue all things to Himself.” m . m CONVINCED OF GOD’S WORD Dr. Malan, while traveling in a French diligence, read aloud from his Bible. A stranger, an infidel, loudly remon strated. Dr. Malan’s friend, a French colonel, told him that he should first have convinced the infidel that it was the Word of God. Said the doctor, “ If you were attacked by an enemy in bat tle, would you first persuade him that your weapon was a sword, or would you use it on him?” The next day the in fidel sent to the dining table at the inn to ask if he might continue his journey with him, and later he became a com municant in Dr. Malan’s church,—J. tion of this danger. We -are glad to transcribe them here: “ I do not pretend to be a prophet. But though not a prophet, I see a very dark cloud on our horizon. And that dark cloud Is coming ^ from Rome. It is filled with tears of blood. It will rise and increase till its , Hanks will be torn by a flash of light ning, followed by a fearful peal of thun der. Then a cyclone, such as the world has never seen, will pass over this coun try spreading ruin and desolation from the north to the south. After it is over, there will be long days of peace and prosperity: for Popery, with its Jesuits and merciless inquisition, will have been swept away from our country. Neither I nor you, but our children will see these things.” Father C. Chiniquy, quoting from “ Six Months in the White House” , by F. B. Carpenter, page 715. Shall this prophecy come true? Get Dr. Malinverni’s book from our Book Room. aü WHAT ABOUT WORld) CONVERSION? “ It is the mistaken notion of the ma jority of those people who call them selves Christians,” says The Gospel Minister, “ that the object of Jesus Christ, in instructing His disciples, and through them the church, to preach the Gospel to every creature, was to make the whole world Christian.” An editorial in The Missionary Re view of the World for April is interest ing in view of this prevalent mistake. According to statistics presented in this editorial all the religious bodies in America who call themselves “ Chris tian,” including Roman Catholics and heretical bodies, made an average year ly gain in the five years from 1917 to . 1921 inclusive, of 1,000,000 new mem bers. When one realizes that this is almost 3,000 new members a day it looks encouraging to think of America eventually becoming Christian. This
