“Be sober, be vigilant; because your ad­ versary, the devil, as a roaring; lion, walk- eth about, seeking whom he may devour,” Be on guard. Keep close to your Lord. Keep In touch with His Word. (Prov. 18:10) “The name of the Lord Is a strong tow­ er; the righteous runneth Into It, and Is safe.” There is one place of actual safety" always at hand. The door is open. Every believer has the right of access. Use it. Honor it. Magnify it. This refuge can never he moved. The heavens may depart and the earth crumble, “ But the Word of God abideth forever.” (2) OVERCOMING DIFFICULTIES WITHIN, vs. 10-13. “ I even set the people . . . with their swords, their spears and their bows.” From a strange source there came a defection, “ Judah said.” The emblem of Judah was a lion. Christ is the Lion of the tribe of Judah. Surely this is a strange place in which to find a cowardly brother, a weakling. Foes without we always expect, but fearful friends within are more difficult to handle. They reasoned that when they were taken off to act as guards, they would not he able to handle the rubbish of the broken walls. Of course, this was prob­ ably a serious problem, but not too much of a problem for God. There is an abundance of rubbish in the church and Sunday School. It is in the way. It hinders the best service. It is chaff. The suppers, entertainments, moving pictures, dances, committee meetings, money-raising schemes,— all rubbish—bringing no interest on the in­ vestment, no wheat into the barn; cre­ ating dissensions of all kinds but bring­ ing no glory to God. Let us get rid of the rubbish. Time is precious. One great work has been given us to do-—give the Gospel to every creature. Get at it. Keep at it. Stick to it- It pays!
