of Boston Two New Instructors of the Bible Institute of Los Angeles

Miss Jeanette L. Wurts, *21, writes from Denver, where she has been ill in a sani tarium, having been compelled to retire temporarily from active service at Falls Institute, Toccoa, Ga. She says: ‘‘This illness, which has been threatening for a lon g time, surely has been a trial hard to bear, specially the almost unbearable dis appointment in having to lay down the work, but only His great and all-sufficient grace has carried me through. But this very w onderful grace has carried me thus far, and has given me cause to rejoice in the opportunity to commune w ith Him. So m an y-of the dear B. I. folk s have written to me, and the other day I had a visit from Ruth Findley (1920), whose w ork is very near this sanitarium .” Charles M. K ilgore, ’19, who accepted the pastorate o f the Baptist Church at Oceanside, Calif., about a year ago, reports the Lord’s blessing upon his work, fifteen members having been added, the Sunday School nearly doubled, and a parsonage secured. He desires prayer for guidance in- the w ork fo r the salvation of souls. Miss Leila M. Jamison, ’21, writes from Jerusalem, Palestine: "I am glad God sent me, ‘fo r the harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few.’ Oh, I long fo r every one who is considering the foreign field to go all the way w ith God. God needs us and He has called, called 2,000 years ago— no one need ever consider the ‘ca ll’ for it is the same— people are dying w ithout Christ and no one to tell them the story o f Jesus. . . . Tell them, any and all, the fields are white, and no labor ers.” Rev. E- L. Goonasakara o f India, who spent some time at the Institute last year, writes from New Y ork City: “I am still in your great country representing India’s special needs and at the same time liftin g our crucified Master before the Christless masses o f this country. I have been great ly blessed m yself com ing in contact with men of God in different cities, who stand fo r the good old Gospel and the good old Word. I shall not forget my stay at the Bible Institute and the glorious times we used to have at the Fishermen’s Club.” Charles G. Sprout, ’17, w rites from Rubl, Moto Mines, in A frica : *‘I praise and thank

the Lord for the gracious way He is ca r ing fo r me and the work. There is never a time but that we would like to see more accomplished for the Lord, but when we realize the experiences through which we are called to pass at times, it is only the strength which comes from the Lord that can sustain us during the severest times of testing. The work here is most difficult at present. The Catholic opposition, I be lieve, is the greatest hindrance to the work. They have a chapel and catechist in each of the camps and have been doing all that they can to influence the people against us. Their success in this is only too evident. There would be a splendid opportunity here for doing a good work were it not for the strong opposition put forth by the R. C.’s, as there are over a thousand people in the three camps, which are only a short distance apart. W e are hoping and praying that the Lord w ill soon see fit to break down and remove this opposition out o f the way in order that the Gospel m ight run and be glorified.” Edward Kahale, ’21, Kaneohe, Oahu, T. H „ writes o f his w ork preaching the Gos pel in different parts o f the island, and of souls saved as a result. He continues: “I was ordained by the Oahu Evangelical A s sociation on April 9th, and called to be pastor of this church fo r three years. What we have been able to accomplish fo r the Lord is an answer to prayer. This is certainy a tough field to w ork in. We were like foreigners to our own people. W e did a lot o f house to house visitation w ork and personal w ork before we could ever get the people to come to our services and meetings. W e can never thank the Lord enough fo r H is grace, which is a l ways sufficient fo r us. We run a prayer meeting in our little church after the manner o f the Church of the Open Door prayer meeting, and it is ju st wonderful how the Lord blesses our meetings. I taught a class in personal work for about tw o months and it has helped our church people greatly in our visitation work. I taught them the Book o f Genesis fo r five months and now I am teaching them the doctrines o f the Bible, using Dr. T orrey’s text-book.
