FCV OT & Speech is now offering occupational and speech therapy for both our pediatric and adult patients at all four of our locations. Our occupational and speech therapists are extremely eager to see you and get you back to enjoying your life and doing the things you love. Read on to find out if occupational or speech therapy are right for you and your children. What Is Occupational Therapy? Occupational therapy is a safe, effective, and non-invasive treatment option that helps restore the quality of life to those receiving it. It can also speed up recovery time, decreasing the need for surgery. This kind of therapy is designed to relieve pain resulting from a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, sports injuries, workplace injuries, and more. Why Should I See An Occupational Therapist? If you notice that your muscles are sore and achy throughout the day, or you’re living with a chronic condition that brings constant pain, you might need occupational therapy! Patients typically see an occupational therapist to help manage chronic pain symptoms and prevent future injury. Regular appointments with an occupational therapist are ideal. It

doesn’t matter what age you are, FCV OT & Speech’s doors are always open! What Conditions Can Occupational Therapy Treat? Occupational therapy can treat a multitude of conditions and disorders. Some benefits of occupational therapy are as follows: • It can help you avoid injuries. • Improve your physical activity. • Increase your levels of balance. • Improve your flexibility and range of motion. If you’re struggling to do everyday activities such as shower, get out of bed, open doors, or get dressed, occupational therapy could be a great option for you. You don’t need added stress from being unable to do simple tasks. Our licensed occupational therapists at FCV OT & Speech are here to guide you every step of the way on your path to recovery.

WHAT IS SPEECH THERAPY & HOW CAN IT HELP ME? Speech therapists handle issues dealing with delayed speech, vocabulary development, facial expressions, and more. Our therapists work hard to help our patients develop strong speaking and listening skills as well as refine volume and quality of voice. They help to decrease issues patients have with eating, and cognitive skills too. Speech therapists can also address problems with swallowing and communicating after an injury or stroke. If a person receiving therapy is having issues swallowing, our speech therapist will work to pinpoint any restrictions they experience during the swallowing process. From there, they can create a specialized treatment plan for eating and drinking habits. What Should I Expect From Speech Therapy? You or your child will be scheduled for regular appointments at our office to work with a speech therapist, and at the end of each visit, you will be given easy exercises to work on at home. Your treatment plan will consist of exercises to help improve and strengthen coordination of your mouth, throat and tongue. They will help the patient work toward strengthening and improving coordination of the tongue, mouth, and throat, in order to facilitate normal speaking, chewing and swallowing habits. A speech therapist will not only teach proper exercises and techniques, but will actively monitor and track the progress of the person receiving the therapy. For children with speech disorders, we like to make sure that parents play a large role in the process.

“Thank you for all of the excellent care after my bilateral knee replacement surgery, seventeen months ago. It was a long difficult recovery, but with the therapy I received, I now have no limitations in movement or activities. The entire staff is pleasant, caring and very personable. They made what was a very arduous and painful at times into something I looked forward to. The support and encouragement that I received was a very important part of my recovery. I highly recommend Alden Physical Therapy to anyone needing therapy.” - Jane WHAT PATIENTS ARE SAYING!
