As colder temperatures approach Southwest Florida, the Sanibel Recreation Center may have to cancel some outdoor fitness classes from time to time. Stay informed and up-to-date with the latest weather information by clicking here to access Thorguard, our lightning prediction system. Sanibel Recreation Center policy states, “Air temperature must be at least 60 degrees for cardio-based programming such as shallow or deep water aerobics.”

PICK-UP BASKETBALL Stop by the Sanibel Recreation Center and shoot some hoops on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. and on Saturdays from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. Pick-up basketball will begin on Tuesday, January 2nd. Bring your own ball or use our limited supply.

PERSONAL TRAINING

Are you looking to take your overall health and wellness to the next level? Sign up today for a personal training session with one of our experienced and certified personal trainers. Cost is only $82 for a one-hour session for members / $103 for a one-hour session for non- members. Ginger Brien: Mondays from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Fridays from 10:15 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. Saturdays 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Monika Perez Wednesdays from 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Tuesday, January 9th With Connor Russell Signup at the front desk! Weight Room 101 includes weight room orientation, specific instruction on upper and lower body exercises, and cardiovascular training tips. Instruction and guidance on how to properly train your entire body safely and effectively will help participants to gain muscular strength and cardiovascular endurance. For safety purposes, this class is limited to 10 participants. Please register in advance at the front desk. Closed-toe footwear is required.

Free Blood Pressure Check- Sanibel Fire District The Sanibel Fire District has teamed up with the Sanibel Recreation Center to offer a complimentary blood pressure screening on Monday, January 29th between 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. in the Sanibel Recreation Center lobby.

MARTIAL ARTS

Are you interested in learning Martial Arts? Martial Arts helps practice balance, build structure, and boost confidence. Register today for group lessons with Sensei Gary Thomas, available to all ages. Lessons are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2:30 p.m. as well as Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. Lessons are paid monthly at a rate of $100 member and $125 non-member. 13+ Martial Arts on Tuesday and Thursdays at 4:00 p.m. as well as Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. Family Rate! Families with more than 3 people participating in martial arts will be charged $250 for the whole family. Individuals who would like to register for the program but are only available to attend one day per week will be subject to a reduced fee of $50.

Does your child enjoy swimming? Improve their stroke and endurance by signing up for SWAT (Sanibel Water Attack Team)! Registration is now open for the January session of SWAT. Swim team practice will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for ages 5-18. Participants must be able to swim 25 yards unassisted. Registration is paid on a monthly basis. $35 for members $45 for non-members SWAT (SANIBEL WATER ATTACK TEAM)

BACKYARD GAMES AT COMMUNITY PARK PRESENTED BY THE SANIBEL RECREATION DEPARTMENT

Get Ready for some Backyard Game fun at Sanibel Community Park! Drop in with friends or family for some fun- filled activities. Enjoy a variety of games, including volleyball, football, soccer, shuffleboard, and corn hole toss. All ages welcome! Best of all, there is no fee to participate. All activities are weather permitting. For more information, please contact the Sanibel Recreation Center.

BALLFIELD AND OUTDOOR COURT RESTORATION UPDATE

Outdoor Court Update: The projected completion for this project is at the end of January 2024. The project includes a brand new foundation, courts, net posts, and fencing. The courts will be lined for tennis and pickleball play.

Ballfield restoration work continues with grading, irrigation replacement, installation of new sod & clay, fencing repair/replacement, new ballfield lighting system, repair of dugouts, new shade structures and bleachers. The projected reopening date is April 2024!
