Questions about personal development
45% of the staff felt that NNPC acts fairly in relation to career progression, regardless of ethnic background, gender, religion, sexual orientation, disability or age, although 50% felt they did not know about this or could not answer the question. A third of the staff felt supported to develop their career potential, with more than a third of them neither agreed nor disagreed with this statement. More than a half of them reported feeling able to access the right learning and development opportunities when they need to. NNPC are proud to be an employee who is fair and does not discriminate anyone who would like to work with us, to which 45% of you agreed. We feel happy with this and will aim to identify how we can further improve the staff’s recognition of this. Personal development needs, clinical supervision, and training can seem difficult for those staff who are working as locums in any of our clinical services. Being self-employed, we expect that they are able to provide us with evidence of mandatory training as a minimum requirement for working with us, and that they organise their own ongoing CPD and clinical supervision. However, as an organisation we have provided teaching and educational sessions in topics relevant to the services. We are also keen to encourage locum staff to be involved in clinical audits, guideline / policy development in order to support service quality improvement. For those NNPC employed clinician, we provide study leave for appropriate training and development, and clinical supervision. The staff can discuss any of their development needs with their Service Manager.
Questions about our organisation
In terms of the staffs’ feelings about the level of care we provide for patients, 91% of them reported that NNPC prioritises the care of patients and service users and 85% of them would be happy for a family member or friend to receive care from one of our services. 81% of the staff reported that they feel secure to raise concerns about unsafe practice and 70% of them are confident that NNPC would address those concerns. Equally about 70% feel that NNPC acts on the concerns raised by patients and service users.
Less than 20% of them said they were considering working for another organisation in the next 12 month with 44% reporting that it is not applicable because working for NNPC is not their only job.
We recognise how important it is for any of the staff to be able to speak up about concerns and are really pleased that they feel able to do this. It is important that they feel that their concerns are acted upon, so we would encourage them to follow up on any concerns they raise. If they feel more comfortable raising issues outside their own team or they are concerned about the safety of the service you work in, they are encouraged to contact the Freedom to Speak Up Guardians.
In terms of looking for other work, we are always keen to understand why people may wish to seek employment elsewhere, so that we can take steps to improve areas where we can.
