BEGINNING WHEEL Whether you are new to the pottery wheel, or it's been a while since you've taken a spin, Althea will guide you through the ABCs of throwing. The focus of this class will be to hone in on learning basic wheel throwing skills such as centering, forming cylinders, bowls, and attaching handles. Surface decoration techniques using underglazes, slip application, carving, and foundational elements of successful glaze application will also be covered. INTERMEDIATE TO ADVANCED HANDBUILDING
Pinch, carve, and slab build an expressive, narrative sculpture of an animal. Thorly will demonstrate various techniques and tools to give personality to your animal sculpture. Previous handbuilding experience is recommended. Students working on their own projects are welcome too. A list of helpful tools will be emailed before the first class. EXPLORING CLAY: INTERMEDIATE TO ADVANCED
Let’s take your clay skills to the next level! Anika will throw, alter, and build familiar forms using wheel throwing and handbuilding techniques, and show you how to combine the two for more complex shapes! Enhance your surfaces using slip and underglaze transfers and learn to create sets of items that stack and fit comfortably together in your cabinets. Demonstrations will begin promptly 15 minutes after the start of class. Recommended for students who have taken at least one wheel throwing class, no previous handbuilding experience is needed.
