Wake Forest Northeast Community Plan - December 2021

to give residents of the Northeast Community additional transportation options. Such microtransit options may include bikeshare, scooters, etc. Locate applicable microtransit docking stations near activity centers within and adjacent to the Northeast Community (such as, at the intersection of E. Roosevelt Avenue and N. White Street, at Alston- Massenburg Center, etc.) The prospect of improved regional and intercity rail service may also offer mobility benefits for the Northeast Community. The Town should continue coordination with NCDOT and GoRaleigh to advance the Wake Forest Commuter Rail (S-Line) initiative. A key objective of this initiative should be identifying a train station site in close proximity to Downtown and the Northeast Community.

STRATEGY 5. Explore new transit connections/ routes to link the Northeast to surrounding commercial and job centers. Another important element to the Town’s multi-modal approach to transportation is transit. A robust transit system not only increases mobility for a neighborhood, but also provides residents with an alternative to automobile ownership— helping households already straddled with burdensome housing costs. The Town should investigate the viability of adding a transit route to/ from points north of the study area (i.e. Flaherty Park, Youngsville, etc.). Any new routes should have transfer options with the Wake Forest Loop. This would be especially beneficial as the DuBois Campus begins to redevelop, which could serve potential new affordable housing units on-site. New emerging technologies present a lot of opportunity for increased mobility in the study area. The Town should explore innovative multimodal technologies (i.e. microtransit/micromobility)

The S-Line initiative aims to improve intercity passenger rail service and establish a new commuter rail service for theTriangle region.
