Alfred library study project
Military police stage tactical exercise
Daigneault, chief administrative officer, regarding the need for the study. “You are looking at a project that is worth maybe half a million dollars.” As of the end of spring the township had $100,000 confirmed in funding support for the library project. The municipality is also working with La Cité collégiale on architectural concepts for the facility that the library committee will review and critique. The proposed new library will be a 3000-square-foot building to start, with fu- ture expansion potential up to 6000 square feet as the village grows and user numbers increase. The township is looking for a site, with services, that is at least 24,000 square feet in size to accommodate the building and parking area. The goal is to have the starting phase of the new library built and ready to open in 2014.

ing them will be members of the OPP and Sûreté du Québec along with representa- tives from U.S. Military Police units. “It’s quite an important event for our area,” said Marc Daigneault, Alfred-Plantagenet’s chief administrative officer. The main operation headquarters for the joint exercise will be in Hawkesbury at the Pittsburgh Glass Works. There will also be a secondary operations base set up in Wendover at the Lucien Delorme Commu- nity Centre. Alfred-Plantagenet Township council reviewed during its June 18 regular session and approved a request from the Department of National Defence for per- mission to use the community centre as the secondary base. The two Canadian military police regi- ments have invited emergency response and service groups for the UCPR and its member municipalities to also take part in the joint exercise. Altogether more than 200 military and other police forces mem- bers are expected to take part in the train- ing exercise, and the Wendover operations base will accommodate anywhere from 30 to 40 participants during the week of the exercise.

Alfred | While fundraising efforts continue to provide Alfred village residents with a newer, bigger, better public library in their community, a business plan is now in the works to help the project along. Alfred-Plantagenet Township has an agreement with the Prescott-Russell Com- munity Development Corp. (PRCDC) for a $15,000 grant towards the cost of a feasibil- ity study on the library project. The study will include developing a com- munication plan and a business presenta- tion prospectus along with a marketing strategy to help the township when it ap- plies to other funding sources for the proj- ect. “It (library project) is evolving,” said Marc
