Santa Barbara MRF (Cont’d from Page 1)
The recyclables captured at the MRF are baled and sold to market. The organics captured at the MRF move on to second phase of the project, the anaerobic digestion facil- ity. Here, organics are broken down and turned into com- post and renewable energy. The energy generated by the ReSource Center (which also includes an existing landfill gas collection system) will reportedly be enough to power the system itself as well as 2,000 local homes per year. The county estimates about 60 percent of incoming MSW material is either recyclable or compostable. The MRF is expected to recover that fraction (composed of roughly equal parts recyclables and organics) from the MSW, sig- nificantly reducing the county’s landfill contributions. This will extend the life of the landfill by up to a decade, while significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In fact, the project will be the largest reducer of greenhouse gases in the county, slashing 117,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide from the landfill’s output (the equivalent of taking 29,000 cars off the road) each year. Paper Group Calls For Cup Recycling ‘Recognition’ As retailers start to re-open after lockdown, the Paper Cup Recovery and Recycling Group (PCRRG) has called for greater recognition of paper cup recycling. In a recent report, the membership organization said it wanted to emphasize to all businesses that coffee cups can be recovered and recycled. PCRRG members include rep- resentatives from paper board manufacturers, paper cup manufacturers, distributors, retail brands, recycling and re- processing companies, local authorities and NGOs. The PCRRG launched the National Cup Recycling Scheme in 2018. Figures from compliance scheme Valpak show that since its launch the scheme has collected and recycled more than 150 million cups, the PCRRG said. There has been an increase of nearly 50 percent in the average number of cups collected each day through the scheme between its first and second years, the PCRRG said, though the number of cups being recycled per month has slowed as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Hasbro Partners With Terracycle To Recycle Toys Toymaker Hasbro is partnering with recycling initiative TerraCycle to offer a free UK recycling program for its prod- ucts. The program will allow people to send their unwanted Hasbro toys to be recycled into new products. Items that will be accepted include board games, dolls, action figures, electronic games, and plush toys from any Hasbro brands.TerraCycle will transform some of the toys into materials that can be used to make new products, in- cluding outdoor furniture and planters. The recycling program is already available in the United States, Germany, Canada, France and Brazil and is part of Hasbro’s growing commitment to focus on sustainability.
Wired. Proven auto-tie technology outputs tighter bales, faster.
When it comes to premium baling technology, after the bale build phase nothing matters more than a properly tied bale. Our approach to automated bale tying is based on over 60 years of continuous improvement. The Balemaster auto-tie technology is a combination of proven electro/mechanical concepts, operator-tested automation and built-to-last construction and design engineering principles. So, until we invent wireless baling, there’s nothing easier, nothing more reliable and nothing faster than Balemaster’s Auto-Tier.
More than a source. A resource.
