Exhibitions to remember from 2018 2018 has been a dynamic year for the world of art, and has presented us with an abundance of captivating and diverse exhibitions across the UK. If you missed them, don’t despair. Read on for our edit of the very best shows held this year to date.
The royal academy summer exhibition This year saw The Royal Academy celebrate its 250th Summer Exhibition. Exhibiting a range of art, the show was spread across the new Royal Academy and, for the first time, spilt onto the streets of London’s West End. Highlights included the Royal Academicians Anish Kapoor’s monumental sculpture Symphony for a Beloved Sun and an enormous textile body by Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos entitled Royal Valkyrie.
Osman Yousefzada: Being Somewhere Else at Ikon Gallery The first solo exhibition by Birmingham- born fashion designer, Osman Yousefzada, was held at the city’s Ikon Gallery in June. The exhibition consisted entirely of new commissions, with a personal consideration of the contemporary fashion world and the industry’s ‘inherent inequalities’, juxtaposed with representations associated with the experience of immigration. Installations included an evocation of an ‘immigrant’s bedroom’ inspired by Afghan/ Pakistani family’s experiences, full of furniture and decoration signifying cultural displacement.
