A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 13

I would like to start by wishing all Year 13 students, their parents and carers a Happy New Year! I hope everyone had the chance to get some rest over the festive period. It was really wonderful to see the Year 13 students back on site on Monday.

Just before the end of last term, as part of their A Level studies, the Year 13 Fashion and Textile students went on a trip to the Victoria and Albert Museum. Their feedback has been extremely positive and they all had a wonderful day, not only viewing the core fashion collection but also enjoying the Diva exhibition and the sold-out Chanel show.

The trip was the perfect stimulus for their NEA which started this week and which will conclude on Tuesday next week. I would like to take this opportunity to wish them all the best of luck! I look forward to seeing their completed work next week.

Next week, Dr Christos Pliatsikas, an Associate Professor from the University of Reading, will be coming into the school to talk to the A Level Psychology students regarding the effects of bilingualism on the structure of our brains.

On a final note, the remaining UCAS applications need to be submitted to the school as soon as possible to ensure the set deadline by UCAS is met.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Malibu Rising is a captivating rollercoaster of drama and emotion. Taylor Jenkins Reid successfully presents the Riva siblings’ lives against the atmosphere of ‘80s Malibu. The characters feel like friends you’ve known forever, their struggles and triumphs resonating with the teenage experience. The glamorous setting contrasts with the raw, relatable human stories, creating an intriguing narrative. Reid’s writing is touching, making it a page-turner that explores family dynamics, love, and the pursuit of identity. Malibu Rising is a must-read that blends nostalgia with timeless themes for any teenager.
