EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The University of Exeter estate comprises over 360,000m² of academic, research, administrative, commercial, residential accommodation and renewable energy infrastructure on 430 acres of land across Devon and Cornwall. The University has ambitious plans to continue to develop its estate and infrastructure, including a bold commitment to invest in sustainable buildings and infrastructure to support its goal of becoming a Net Zero University by 2030. The Senior Energy Engineer is a member of the Sustainability Team. Based within the Finance, Infrastructure and Commercial Services Division, the Sustainability Team are a major contributor to delivering on the University’s Strategy 2030 commitment to ‘lead meaningful action against the climate emergency and ecological crisis.’ The team has responsibility for delivering on the University’s net zero and net environmental gain targets and this job will assist managing with the work relating to reducing scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions. The newly created role is responsible for the development and delivery of scope 1 and 2 carbon reduction projects that make a major contribution to achieving the University’s net zero target. They champion and promote the benefits of a low-carbon design across the University. The role holder also assists the Head of Carbon and Energy to identify, implement, monitor and review strategies, policies and projects to reduce the University’s carbon emissions and utility consumption.
