CULTURAL HIGHLIGHTS AND EXCURSIONS
Attend a Viennese Traditional Ball Experience an integral part of Viennese and Austrian culture by waltzing the night away at a Viennese Ball during Ball Season during the Spring semester. Every January, the Student Resource Center partially sponsors ball tickets to promote this cultural experience to students. Webster’s Got Talent and Football Tournament In February each year, students have the opportunity to showcase their talents to the entire WVPU community. It’s a fun event for all, but the top two winners move on to compete in the Webster’s Got Talent finale which rotates between our Geneva, Leiden and Vienna campuses each April. The European Football Tournament is held during the same weekend with teams from each campus competing for the coveted European trophy. Viennese Hiking and Heurigen: A traditional Austrian food experience Another of Vienna’s intangible cultural heritages, Heurigen, or wine taverns, culture can be found in taverns on the edge of the city that offer current wine from their own vineyards and buffet tables of homemade dishes. The relaxed, cozy atmosphere of Heurigen makes for the perfect place to leisurely spend a few hours in summer and early autumn. WebMU: WVPU Model United Nations Webmun.org is an innovative and interactive Model United Nations conference organized each October by students at Webster Vienna Private University. With a slogan of ‘Revolutionizing Model UNs,’ WebMUN: WVPU Model United Nations invented the interconnectivity system in 2014 and more recently the Diplomatic Corps. Committee. FAST FACTS ABOUT VIENNA • Vienna has been selected as the No. 1 city in the Mercer’s Annual Quality of Living Ranking for 11 years in a row (2012-2023). • Viennese coffee house culture has been inscribed on the UNESCO “Intangible Cultural Heritage” list since 2011. Often described as the city’s living room, coffee houses are a place “where time and space are consumed, but only the coffee is found on the bill.” • With numerous parks and gardens, over half of Vienna is green space making it one of the greenest cities in the world. The nearby Viennese Woods, a branch of the foothills of the Alps, offers a network of walking and hiking paths, nature reserves and vineyards easily reachable by Vienna’s public transport system.

Note: The Vienna Campus offers general education courses that are part of Webster’s Global Citizenships Program (GCP), including courses in areas like German Language, Art History, Anthropology, English, History and Science. HOUSING IN VIENNA Study abroad students are housed off campus at District Living, in a modern, compact studio with an integrated kitchen and on-site laundry facilities. The residence hall offers a wide range of shared working and leisure spaces and amenities. From the secret garden, lounge cafe, gym and yoga room to the 33 rd floor sky lounge with its amazing views of Donau Island. District Living is situated in the most modern part of the city and right next to the Austrian United Nations headquarters, it is just a 15-minute journey to campus with fantastic public transport connections that will ensure you get to see all the best that Vienna has to offer in record time.
Often named one of the world’s top cities for quality of life, it is hard to find a more livable city than Vienna. Vienna is a historic city at the intersection of “old” and “new.” Here you will find a thriving center of international commerce, where the banking and business districts share the streets with the city’s famous centuries- old opera houses, cafés, magnificent palaces and the winding Danube River. Located in Central Europe, students will be exposed to multicultural living and learning at its best. Established in 1981, Webster Vienna Private University (WVPU) is located in the beautiful Palais Wenkheim, conveniently located in Vienna’s second district, just a few steps away from the city center. Built in 1826, the neoclassical building features tremendous architectural detailing, both interior and exterior. The building was completely renovated and transformed into a modern site for academic and operational excellence in 2014. The Vienna campus offers modern and interactive classrooms, computer labs, the Library and Learning Center, and plenty of places throughout the building for students to meet, study and relax. In the Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience and Behavior Lab (CanBeLab), students have the opportunity to record brain activities, muscle activity, skin conductance and to code and analyze facial expressions for scientific research.

to meet full-time students and help get really connected to the campus during my time there. Vienna itself was always alive with things to do. I’d wake up, go to class and always have something exciting planned for after. I loved feeling like a tourist and local all at once in Vienna.
