A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 7

Happy New Year!

It was nice to welcome our Year 7 students back to school after the Christmas holiday. I hope that everybody has had a restful break and feels refreshed and ready for the new term. There have been some minor adjustments to the Year 7 timetable to accommodate some staff changes. New timetables were issued to students on Monday but please can you check that your child has looked at this and is aware of any changes. Another change to note is that Mr Trevelyan is now the permanent form tutor of 7SSH and so this class will now be known as 7STR. The first week back has seen a flurry of house points with 7FFR, 7PIR and 7PUN leading the way. Remember that house points can be used to purchase items from the epraise shop. Trading in house points like this does not affect the scores recorded by each student and their form group.

Looking forward, we have the Year 7 Parents Consultation Evening on Wednesday 21 February. Information about how to make appointments with teachers will be shared nearer the time.

May I take this opportunity to remind parents and carers that many social media platforms such as WhatsApp and TikTok have minimum ages beyond the age of our Year 7 students. I strongly recommend that parents/ carers discuss the use of these platforms with their children to keep them safe and protect them from getting embroiled in issues such as cyberbullying.

Many thanks and best wishes for the new year!

MR GREAVES, HEAD OF YEAR 7

BOOK OF THE MONTH

The Silver Sword by Ian Serraillier

Having lost their parents in WW2, Ruth, Edek and Bronia are left alone to fend for themselves in Warsaw. They then meet Jan, another orphan boy, who has a “silver sword” paper knife given to him by an escape war prisoner. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical fiction and adventure stories.
