A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 12

Welcome back to Year 12 and a very happy new year to everyone. As Ms Pugh is on maternity leave I have taken on the role as Head of Year 12. I am very excited to be working with this year group and celebrating their achievements. I have taught many of them already but I am really enjoying getting to know more of the Year 12s.

As we start the new year I want to remind students of the healthy routines they had in place before the holidays such as good sleep habits, getting up for school on time and attending all lessons. Please encourage your child to seek out support from their tutor or myself should they need it.

This term we will have an increased focus on the university application process and Post-18 options. In the enrichment session this week students received their Higher Education briefing to ensure they are aware of the UCAS process and the programme of support that will be offered in the coming months. Parents are invited to attend the Higher Education Evening on Monday 22 January from 17.30-18.30. There will also be a separate briefing for students seeking to apply to Oxford or Cambridge. The Oxbridge Evening for parents is scheduled to take place on Monday 29 January 17.30-18.30. You will have received a letter about these events.

Looking further ahead, the Year 12 exams are due to take place after the Easter holidays, 15 April - 26 April. Students should be prepared for these exams by starting their revision now.

MS SILLWOOD, HEAD OF YEAR 12

BOOK OF THE MONTH

Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Malibu Rising is a captivating rollercoaster of drama and emotion. Taylor Jenkins Reid successfully presents the Riva siblings’ lives against the atmosphere of ‘80s Malibu. The characters feel like friends you’ve known forever, their struggles and triumphs resonating with the teenage experience. The glamorous setting contrasts with the raw, relatable human stories, creating an intriguing narrative. Reid’s writing is touching, making it a page-turner that explores family dynamics, love, and the pursuit of identity. Malibu Rising is a must-read that blends nostalgia with timeless themes for any teenager.
