EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The University of Exeter estate comprises over 360,000m² of academic, research, administrative, commercial, residential accommodation and renewable energy infrastructure on 430 acres of land across Devon and Cornwall. The University has ambitious plans to continue to develop its estate and infrastructure, including a bold commitment to invest in sustainable buildings and infrastructure to support its goal of becoming a Net Zero University by 2030. The Deputy Energy Manager is within the Sustainability Team. Based within the Finance, Infrastructure and Commercial Services Division, the Sustainability Team are a major contributor to delivering on the University’s Strategy 2030 commitment to ‘lead meaningful action against the climate emergency and ecological crisis.’ The team has responsibility for delivering on the University’s net zero and net environmental gain targets and this job will assist managing with the work relating to reducing scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions. The newly created role is responsible for planning and monitoring the University’s energy consumption and utility expenditure. They will assist the Head of Carbon and Energy in the development and delivery of programmes, projects and policies that make a major contribution to achieving the University’s net zero target. As a member of the Carbon and Energy Team, the role holder will play a key role in identifying, implementing, monitoring and reviewing strategies, policies and projects to reduce the University’s carbon emissions and utility consumption.
