What to Do if You’re Hurt as a Passenger Injured as a Passenger? You never expect to be in a car accident, especially not as a passenger. One minute, you are heading to your destination, and the next, you are dealing with pain, medical bills, and a whirlwind of uncertainty. Unlike the driver, you were not in control of the vehicle, but you still have rights, and understanding them can make all the difference in your recovery. WHO PAYS FOR YOUR INJURIES? Georgia follows a fault-based system, meaning the at-fault driver’s insurance is responsible for covering the damages of whoever was injured in the accident. It does not matter whether you were in their vehicle or another one — their liability insurance should cover your medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering. WHY A POLICE REPORT MATTERS After an accident, your priority should be your health — but right after that, documentation is key. Georgia law requires fault to be determined before any claims are processed, so calling 911 and getting an official police report is crucial. If possible, try to gather evidence: • Take clear photos, including vehicle damage, road conditions, and visible injuries. • Capture road signs, skid marks, and weather conditions — details that could later help determine fault. • Obtain contact information from witnesses, if possible. OTHER WAYS TO COVER MEDICAL EXPENSES If the at-fault driver’s insurance is slow to act or has insufficient coverage, you might have other options: • If you have Medical Payments (MedPay) coverage, it can help pay your medical bills immediately, no matter who was at fault. • Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM) coverage can step in if the at-fault driver does not have enough insurance. • Your personal health insurance can cover treatment costs, but you may still have out-of-pocket expenses like copays and deductibles. WHAT COMES NEXT? No one expects to be injured as a passenger, and dealing with insurance companies can be overwhelming when all you want to do is heal. That is where we come in. At Kevin Patrick Law, we can help you navigate the process, deal with the paperwork, and ensure you receive the compensation you deserve. Let’s make sure you get the help you need .
Treat Mom to a Magical Morning The Ultimate Mother’s Day Breakfast Plan We should all show appreciation for the moms in our lives year-round, but Mother’s Day is the perfect opportunity to do something extra special. For many busy moms, a relaxing, stress-free breakfast in bed is the ultimate treat. But Mother’s Day breakfast doesn’t have to be an over-the-top display or super complicated to prepare. A little planning, a few thoughtful details, and helping hands make all the difference. START WITH A MENU SHE’LL LOVE. Mother’s Day breakfast in bed should be simple but meaningful. Breakfast go-tos like pancakes and French toast are delicious and easy to make, and you can add a parfait or fresh fruit and a cup of freshly squeezed juice for a special touch. If she loves eggs and toast, go in that direction. Preparing Mom’s favorite dish or incorporating ingredients that remind her of a family tradition can take the meal to the next level. PRESENT IT BEAUTIFULLY. You can elevate even a simple breakfast with a few thoughtful additions. Ditch the disposables and use real plates, silverware, and linen napkins. Deliver the breakfast with care on a lovely tray accompanied by a small vase of flowers. Keep everything organized neatly, and include a handwritten card or note to add a heartfelt message to the meal. MAKE IT A TEAM EFFORT. Get the whole family involved — minus Mom, of course! Even young kids can pitch in by spreading butter, arranging fruit, or folding napkins. Older kids can help out more with the actual cooking. To make Mother’s Day morning stress-free for everyone, do prep work the night before. Chop fruit, prepare the coffeemaker, and premix the pancake batter. And don’t forget the cleanup. Working as a team to wash dishes and put things away will ensure a dirty kitchen doesn’t ruin Mom’s special day when she gets up. Remember, you don’t have to prepare the perfect meal to make Mother’s Day memorable. It’s all about showing your love and appreciation. The holiday is an opportunity to bring the entire family together to create a special moment for the most important woman in your life.

The Road to Recovery (and Compensation) HERE’S WHAT TO EXPECT IN A PERSONAL INJURY CASE FROM START TO FINISH
STEP 5: GO TO TRIAL (IF NECESSARY). If settlement negotiations fail, the case goes to trial. Both sides offer evidence, and a judge or jury decides the outcome. Trials can last anywhere from a few days to several weeks. STEP 6: RECEIVE YOUR SETTLEMENT CHECK. Once a settlement is reached, you will typically receive your check in six weeks, though delays can occur due to processing and paperwork. SEVERAL FACTORS CAN AFFECT YOUR TIMELINE. Every case is unique, but several factors can influence how long it takes to resolve:
When you’re already facing injuries or property damage, knowing what to expect in a personal injury case can help ease the stress of the process. Here is a step-by-step look at what may happen from start to finish. STEP 1: SEEK MEDICAL TREATMENT. Your health comes first. Seek medical attention immediately, even if you feel fine; some injuries do not show symptoms right away. Follow your doctor’s recommendations, attend follow-up appointments, and keep all medical records. These will be crucial for your claim.
will handle negotiations, gather evidence, and protect your rights. Before speaking to the at-fault driver’s insurance company, consult your attorney to avoid saying anything that could hurt your case. STEP 3: GATHER EVIDENCE. A strong case relies on solid evidence, including medical records and bills, lost wage documentation, accident scene photos and videos, witness statements, and police reports. This step usually takes 30–45 days but is essential for proving your claim. STEP 4: FILE AN INSURANCE CLAIM AND NEGOTIATE. Your attorney will file a claim and send a demand letter detailing your injuries and damages. Most cases settle out of court, as insurance companies prefer to avoid trial. Your attorney will work to get you the maximum compensation.
•
The severity of your injuries: More severe injuries can delay settlement negotiations. Willingness to negotiate: Litigation may be necessary if the insurance company refuses to settle. Amount of evidence to gather: More complex cases require extensive documentation and expert testimonies.

Your Dream Lawn Is Within Reach
The Envy of the Neighborhood
Try These Simple Lawn Care Hacks
Some say the grass is always greener on the other side, but it doesn’t have to be! While this adage has a deeper philosophical meaning about perspective, it can also apply to our actual grass. How often have you looked at a neighbor’s lawn and wondered what they did to make it appear green and lush? Many of us have been envious of someone else’s lawn at one point, but turning your lawn into a picture-perfect paradise is easier than you might imagine with these three strategies! DON’T MOW TOO LOW! One of the biggest mistakes homeowners make when trying to keep their lawns tidy is mowing too low. They think they won’t have to do it as often if they mow lower. While this is true, you’re actively preventing your grass from being as healthy as possible. Cutting your grass short creates stress and reduces its density, creating the perfect breeding ground for invasive weeds. Common weeds like crabgrass depend on sunlight to grow. Leaving your grass at a higher length will prevent
these weeds from getting much-needed sunlight. Ideally, you want to cut your grass so it’s between 2–4 inches tall. DON’T DROWN YOUR LAWN! Grass needs water to survive, so it should thrive if we give it an overabundance, right? Overwatering your grass damages the root system by depriving it of oxygen and key nutrients. Over time, your grass will weaken and become the perfect home for pests and fungi. Instead, you should provide your lawn with around 1 inch of water weekly. Most lawns will need about 20 minutes of watering 3–4 times per week to receive the proper amount. DON’T FORGET ABOUT THE SOIL! You need more than just dirt and water to make your lawn stand out from the rest. Adding a layer of weed-free compost will give your lawn the organic matter and microorganisms it needs to remain healthy. In most cases, you won’t even need to fertilize if your lawn has a solid layer of healthy soil.
