MAJOR Accounting HOMETOWN Stevens Point, Wis. ORGANIZATION Schultz Property Management Stevens Point, Wis. TITLE Accounting Intern
What I did: I worked closely with the controller and operations manager in accomplishing a multitude of tasks. I assisted in standard accounting tasks such as invoicing but also completed work regarding property taxes, expenses, and receivables. Given that Schultz Property Management is a small business, I was able to also complete tasks not directly related to accounting. I organized and maintained files, shredded and disposed of documents, collected and sorted mail, and scanned and digitized miscellaneous paperwork. I also gained experience in drafting leases and receiving payments from tenants. What I liked: I liked working in the close-knit environment of a small business and appreciated the ability to work one-on-one with the business’s management team. I was not simply ushered away to a secluded back corner of a corporate office; I was a part of the daily operations of the business. I was able to feel the business’s heartbeat and engage in its many aspects in a detailed and intimate fashion. Future Dream Job: I hope to someday be an accountant or financial professional for a nonprofit in Central Wisconsin.
