CYNTHIA HUNTER Dock Associate
For Cynthia Hunter, joining our team in 2021 was a family affair – literally. “My dad has been with Averitt for over 25 years,” she says. “He’s always spoken so highly of the people and the company, and I’ve known quite a few of the guys in the shop for a while. So when I needed a new opportunity, I decided to give it a try.” Before coming to Averitt, Cynthia was an auto body technician specializing in collision repair. But the COVID-19 pandemic led her to pursue a new path. “I actually tried driving, but I found out I didn’t like being on the road with that many people in something that big,” she says. “I’d never worked on a dock before, but I had some experience with heavy equipment, so I figured I’d give forklifts a try. It turned out to be a great fit.” Cynthia has since set her sights on advancing within the company, thanks in part to the mentorship she’s received. “Kyle, our W&R person, has been teaching me about weight and reconciliation, like how measurements impact freight costs. It’s fascinating to see how even a small adjustment can change the cost of the total freight bill.” For Cynthia, wearing the Averitt red symbolizes more than professionalism – it’s about a sense of community. “It gives you a sense of belonging,” she explains. “When I’m working with my team, whether it’s on the dock or volunteering to place wreaths for fallen soldiers, I know I’m part of something bigger. It’s definitely a culture that I enjoy because I’ve worked for some places where you’re just a number on a sheet.” Outside of work, Cynthia enjoys gardening, drawing, and spending time with her husband. “I love sketching old cars and fantasy designs,” she says. “It all started with my dad, who’s always been into cars. When the first ‘Fast and Furious’ movie came out, it made me want to design artwork for cars. Then I realized that most people don’t have that kind of paint job.”
L E ROY CONDET On Tour Logistics
For LeRoy Condet, driving with Averitt is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. “I always wanted to drive a truck,” he says. “Back in grade school, I’d check out truck-driving books from the library. It’s just something I’ve always wanted to do.” After serving 20 years in the Marine Corps, he made his dream a reality – starting his career with another company before joining our team in 2014. “There’s a facility about five miles from my house, and I’d see the trucks going up and down the highway no matter where I was – California, Texas, you name it,” he recalls. “I talked to drivers who’d been with Averitt for years, and nobody spoke of leaving. That’s what I was looking for – somewhere I could plant roots.” LeRoy started in Dedicated, moved to Truckload, and then found his home in On Tour Logistics. Now a lead driver, he enjoys mentoring others who are new to OTL. “I like helping drivers make a smooth transition,” he says. “If OTL isn’t a good fit, I’ll point them to other opportunities, like Truckload or LTL. There’s a place for everyone here.” LeRoy also values our professional image, which makes a strong impression on tours. “When we show up in uniform, the production managers and stage teams notice. We’re not out there in jeans and sneakers. They appreciate that we work as a unit, and we look good doing it,” he says. “It’s all about teamwork and making the job go smoothly.” At home, LeRoy stays busy with hands-on projects – fixing things, maintaining the pool, or taking on something new. “Before I even get home, I’ll ask my wife, ‘Is anything broken?’ I’m always looking for something to do,” he says. With four grown children, including two recent college graduates and one currently at Texas A&M, family remains his primary focus. And when he eventually retires, he and his wife have big plans: “We’re going to be RVers – sure it’s more driving, but with longer stops and we can do it together.”
