You may recall a 2003 movie called “The Italian Job.” In the movie, a gentleman named Steve is a member of a gang of robbers who pull off an elaborate gold heist in Venice. Steve ends up commandeering all the loot that the team was going to divide equally. The part of the story I find most intriguing is that when they asked Steve what he would do with all the proceeds from the burglary, he said he would do everything everybody else wanted. In other words, he did not have a plan for what was important to him or what the money would do for him. As we fast-forward in the movie, Steve does exactly what he said — follows other people’s objectives for the money they had stolen. Beyond Your Lifetime A GIFT THAT LASTS FOR GENERATIONS
bequest. We’re working on creating an ongoing fund for our family-one that’s designed not only to provide meaningful opportunities they might not otherwise have, but also to help them learn that money is a tool, meant to be used with intention and a sense of shared responsibility. Regarding this final stage of retirement, ask yourself if these are decisions you want to make in your 80s or 90s. Or do you prepare yourself emotionally and mentally much earlier? My suggestion is to start talking about these endeavors today. Your decisions over the next 20–25 years may affect your family. This may help your family build a lasting financial foundation — whether that’s creating a legacy plan, a family trust, or simply ensuring your values and resources endure well beyond your lifetime. If I asked you who J.P. Morgan was, you would know. We all are aware of the wealth he created and the large amount of wealth he passed on. Even watching TV, you may see that the JPMorgan Chase Foundation has contributed to certain programs, many of which might never have come to fruition without the foundation’s support. So, as you enjoy your retirement and the lifestyle you have planned, keep this in mind: Just as we are passing this month from spring into summer, you will reach a time in retirement when you will pass from summer into fall and winter, when you will want to have a plan of action that will fulfill not just your needs, but your family’s future, perhaps in a way that will surpass your wildest dreams.
Why do I bring this up? The important thing in retirement planning is having a plan that will bring you fulfillment.
We walk you through three phases of retirement — the go-go years, the slow-go years, and the no-go years. Knowing what you want to do in the go-go years is the easiest part because you have been discussing and planning for this stage for years. Planning for the slow-go years is an individual effort. Perhaps one or both of you don’t want to go back to the same places. Maybe you’re already been to Paris two or three times. Maybe you aren’t up for driving the motor home anymore. The stage I want to focus on this month is the no-go stage. Planning is important for this stage, too. We’ve talked about planning for eventual needs, such as burial, but we haven’t talked about what you’re going to do with your assets. In my case, I love my family, my church family, and my work family. As you can tell, the theme for me is family. It is very important to me. We decided to set up a legacy not just for this generation but also for future generations we will never meet, whom we want to know us through our

Your Midlife Molecules A Time to Take Co
No matter what we do, we can’t stop time. We grow a little older as every minute, hour, and day passes. We might not feel older mentally, but our bodies don’t move as well as they used to. It seems like it would happen as a slow, natural progression, but many people report feeling an onset of aging once they cross certain thresholds. A recent study by Stanford University researchers found that our bodies age faster when we enter our mid-40s and early 60s than at any other point in life. The study reviewed data from 108 people who donated blood and other biological samples throughout several years. Through their efforts, researchers found that nearly 81% of the studied molecules demonstrated age-related fluctuations when subjects reached their
mid-40s and early 60s. Both age groups sustained molecule changes related to cardiovascular disease, caffeine metabolism, and skin and muscle groups. Those in their mid-40s saw changes related to alcohol metabolism, and those in their early 60s had changes in immune regulation and kidney function. The results of the study may make you feel powerless to stop these molecular changes once you reach these specific ages. However, like most health-related scenarios, you can take action to help offset age-related changes. Maintaining a balanced diet is one of the best ways to do this. You can eat more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy proteins to improve and maintain your heart health. Eggs,
INBOX OVERLOAD? DIG YOURSELF OUT OF THE EMAIL AVALANCHE!
If your email inbox grows every morning like a tidal wave, a quick digital cleanup may be what you need. Scrolling through hundreds of emails daily wastes time and drains your ability to focus on other, more purposeful tasks. To make all those messages from old subscriptions, names you don’t recognize, and other digital debris consuming your valuable time disappear, use these three steps to clean up the mess.
you need some of those emails, click on “archive” to get the messages out of your inbox. Creating and storing email in folders can save you a lot of time otherwise spent scrolling. Select each email you want to move aside, hover over the subject line, click “move to,” and relocate it to a new or existing folder. And if you have a backlog of unfinished emails (who doesn’t?), attack that queue, too. CLEAN THE DIGITAL CLOSET. Many people have old documents stored on their computers that serve no purpose other than making it easier for cybercriminals to gather personal

information. Discard any data or documents you don’t need or use, and empty the trash afterward. While some apps purport to help you declutter your computer, be wary: Some may set up subscriptions to their own feeds or share your data with a third party.
LAUNCH A PURGE. Your backlog of unread and unwanted emails may number in the thousands by now. If you’re sure you don’t need mass groupings of emails, you can delete them by the page en masse. If you aren’t sure whether

Secrets to a Stress-Free Family Picnic

When was the last time you gathered the family, threw down a blanket, and enjoyed a meal together in the warm sun? A picnic is the perfect springtime activity, but the planning and food prep can make it seem like more hassle than it’s worth. The truth is, however, that picnics don’t have to be complicated. Here are four tips for planning easy family picnics. PICK THE PERFECT PICNIC SPOT. When choosing a location for your picnic, think about how your family would like to spend the day. A park with open fields and playground equipment keeps kids entertained between bites, but a park isn’t the only option. The beach, a local lake, or a mountain picnic area are all fantastic for a family picnic. Just remember bug spray and sunscreen and find a shady spot on hot days. DON’T OVERTHINK THE MENU. Picnics are all about the food, but that doesn’t mean you have to fuss over the menu. Keep things simple, and choose items that can withstand time outside the cooler. Easy-to-eat options like sandwiches,
fruit, and finger foods are tasty and quick to prepare. Add variety with veggies and hummus or cheese and crackers. For an extra treat, grab premade cookies or brownies. Lemonade, juice, and fruit- infused water are refreshing options and keep everyone hydrated without the caffeine. Bring an insulated cooler for drinks and food, and don’t forget wet wipes for easy cleanup. CREATE A COZY, KID-FRIENDLY SETUP. The picnic blanket is a great start, but you can take things up a notch with a few extras. Plush blankets, throw pillows, and lawn chairs offer comfortable sitting and lounging options. Pack entertainment as well; outdoor games, like Frisbee and ring toss, and a portable speaker to add to the fun. DON’T FORGET — IT’S ABOUT FAMILY! Family outings shouldn’t be stressful; the best ones are sometimes the simplest. Instead of worrying about perfect details, focus on spending time together outdoors, relaxing, and enjoying good food and even better company.
