Welcome to Richards House
I look forward to meeting you all and making 2024 an unforgettable year. This booklet will answer questions you may have about the House system at College and Richards House in particular.
The History of Richards House The decision to build Richards House in 1953 was made reluctantly, as the Board of Governors was worried that, should there be another Depression, there would not be enough boarders to fill it. However, he architect was selected and by mid–1956 it was ready for occupation. In 1998–99 a third floor to the specifications of Sir Miles Warren was added and further alterations during 2000 added the Old Boys’ Theatre. The House was named after Reginald James Richards, 12th Headmaster of Christ’s College. He had come to College in 1906 as a 13-year-old Entrance Scholar and left in 1912 having been Head Prefect for two years.
In Richards House we are proud of the strong sense of community that exists between boys, staff and families. This bond is invaluable in creating a sense of belonging and worth which in turn, strongly influences attitudes to all strands of College life. Parents are welcome at all times and are actively encouraged to attend College and House events. These are published in advance and can be found in the school calendar at www.christscollege.com. – Kevin Harris, Housemaster
