EXEMPLARY SERVICE FEATURE: SENATOR NICK CHARLES
Military Appreciation Month is more than a calendar event for Charles—it’s a reminder of his dual mission. “I never stopped serving,” he says. “I just changed the uniform.”
His involvement doesn’t end with policy. As a member of American Legion Post 275 and a board member for organizations like Greater Baden Medical Services and Community Legal Services of Prince George’s County, he’s on the ground, addressing healthcare access, legal aid, and housing insecurity. Legislating with Legacy in Mind As a father of two, Charles often speaks of legacy—not just the one he’ll leave for his children, but the one he’s building for all families in Prince George’s County. His community outreach spans career expos, food distributions, expungement events, and back-to-school drives, reinforcing his belief that legislative work must be complemented by community action. He’s also passionate about supporting youth innovation and economic mobility. Through initiatives like the Design Lab Incubator Project and Inncuvate Innovation Studio, Charles is helping equip young Prince Georgians with entrepreneurial and technical skills. Standing Strong, Looking Forward Senator Charles is more than a politician—he is a reflection of the values that define Military Appreciation Month: courage, service, resilience, and commitment to others. As a proud veteran and even prouder Prince Georgian, his service continues, not on the battlefield, but in the budget meetings, committee hearings, and community events that shape everyday lives. As he puts it: “Service didn’t end when I left the military. It just began a new chapter—one where the mission is to make Prince George’s County stronger, safer, and more prosperous for generations to come.” SERVICE MAGAZINE 10
