Monique “Mo” Hughey was born in DC, and raised in Prince George’s County MD. She obtained a Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry with a minor in Psychology May 2013 from Stevenson University, while also receiving her commission into the Maryland Army National Guard from the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) from The John’s Hopkins University. Following her commissioning, Mo completed the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Basic Officer Leadership course, where she developed her interest in hazardous materials, emergency response, and occupational safety and health. Mo obtained her Master of Science in Occupational Safety and Health with a focus in Environmental Management from Columbia Southern. This was completed while managing hazardous material programs for government agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency and the Food and Drug Administration, while also fulfilling her military obligations as an Army Officer. Mo served on active-duty orders at the National Guard Bureau in Arlington, VA from October 2018 to March 2021 in G3 Current Operations as the C2CRE-B program manager and temporarily as the CBRN officer for the National Guard. She was then selected as the first HHD Commander for the 70 Regional Training Institute (LDR) while she concurrently served on active-duty orders as the community outreach liaison for th distinguished visitors on Maryland’s COVID-19 Vaccine Equity Task Force as of March 2021.
