world cares little for the youth of to morrow. And the church, largely, seems to give little heed to his spiritual need. But, you can be sure, the devil is not slack. That is why Biola students know the importance of reaching them while they are young. Keep me from the fatal habit of think ing I must say something on every sub ject and on every occasion. Release me from craving to straighten out every- bodys affairs. Make me thoughtful but not moody, helpful but not bossy. W ith my vast store of wisdom, it seems a pity not to use it all, but thou knowest, Lord, that I want a few friends at the end. Keep my mind free from recital of endless details, give me wings to get to the point. Seal my lips on my aches and pains. They are increasing, and love of rehearsing them is becoming sweeter as the years go by. I dare not ask for grace to enjoy the tales of others’ pains, but help me to endure w ith patience. I dare not ask for im proved memory, but for growing hu m ility, and a lessening or “cocksure ness” when my memory seems to clash w ith the memory of others. Teach me the glorious lesson that, occasionally, I may be mistaken. Keep me reasonably sweet — I want not to be a shrined saint — some of them are so hard to live with, but a sour old person is one of the crowning works of the devil. Give me the ability to see good things in unexpected places, and tal ents in unexpected people. And give me, 0 Lord, the grace to tell them so. Then, by the indwelling presence of Thy Holy Spirit, so fill me with Thy divine fruits that others may not just hear, but fu lly see, blossoming forth, “love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentle ness, goodness, faith, meekness, tern-

THE SILENT SERMON A certain agnostic, who had scorned the preacher, and yet who regularly attended church, one day walked down the aisle and gave his heart to Jesus Christ. In the inquiry room he was asked by the preacher, “It would be interesting to know what it was that caused you to come forward. Perhaps some illustration, or maybe the power ful number by the soloist, or perhaps the preaching from the sermon.” But, w ith tears still wet on his cheeks, the man shook his head and responded, “No, it was none of those things. I fust kept thinking about that poor elderly women who faithfully comes every Sunday. She has little money, lives meagerly, can hardly walk because she’s so crippled, and yet each Lord’s day, I watch her hobble up the steps with her cane, repeating over and over again, ‘M y blessed Jesus! M y Blessed Jesus!’ If, in her plight aqd sad condi tion, anyone could mean that much to her, I felt she had something I des perately needed. God spoke to my heart.” If you want to have the world see what a Christian is like, ask the Holy Spirit to make you Christ-like! * * * There is a difference between good sound reasons and reasons that mere ly sound good. ONLY A BOY A drummer boy lost his footing while marching with Napoleon’s army, and fell off a steep cliff. Some of the Em peror1s soldiers wanted to go after the lad to see if there was anything they could do for him. But, Napoleon cruelly shouted. “No, stay where you are. It is only a boy!” Only a boy! How tragic that the
