Speaker: Dr. Gert Sarlet, Director of Product Management IP-over-DWDM has long been envisioned by network operators as a way to disaggregate and simplify optical transport networks, eliminating unnecessary layers of equipment, and realizing significant cost savings. With the advent of high Tx output power 400G ZR+ digital coherent optics (DCO) transceivers in QSFP-DD form factor, compatible with the launch power requirements of most ROADMs, that vision is about to become reality for metro applications. Closer to the edge of the network, 100G ZR DCO transceivers in QSFP28 form factor will enable efficient aggregation of data in e.g. 5G backhaul and cable access applications. 12:00 - 12:25 OIF Deployment of 400ZR and the ongoing OIF work to define 800ZR/LR Speaker: Karl Gass, OIF PLL Optical Chair 400ZR coherent deployment is underway and showing a strong ecosystem already exists for this new interoperable standard developed by the OIF. In this presentation an OIF expert will give an overview of 400ZR and discuss its deployment status, including ongoing maintenance. The presentation will then give an overview of current 800ZR and 800LR technical work to create the next core network architecture components and looking to bring coherent networking into the datacenter.

As global operators accelerate the deployment of 5G networks, promote the differentiated application of 5G multi-services, and release more spectrum resources, 5G networks put forward higher bandwidth requirements for high performance fronthaul, midhaul and backhaul optics. Several optical transceiver products are now targeted specifically for this high volume market. This presentation will focus on latest advances in optical wireless deployment scenarios: 50G vs 100G Bidi for up to 40km; analog CDR vs DSP approach for higher bandwidth and low latency; the choice of CWDM, LWDM and tunable solutions; OTU rate support and protection features by leveraging 100G and 400G PAM4 based client optics. The node-on-a-blade platform provides such compelling benefits integrating, in a single compact solution, the key functionalities of the optical transport. The node-on-a-blade is a scalable multi-degree reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexer (ROADM) system for route-and-select nodes. It includes a Quad WSS, amplifiers, switches, and an ultrahigh resolution coherent optical channel monitor (OCM). The coherent OCM provides in real time fine details of the transmission spectrum, which serves to dynamic control the ROADM system, optimizing the transmission of a high mix of 100G to 400G wavelength services. 10:45 - 11:05 Marvell Evolution of Optical Connectivity to 3.2T Speaker: Xi Wang, Vice President of Optical DSP Business Unit Optical connectivity is the foundation of today’s internet infrastructure and has enabled the emergence of hyperscale data centers and a new era of wireless communication. The insatiable demand for cloud-based services is continuously driving the relentless need for data center hardware to have higher bandwidth capacity, with lower power consumption and smaller footprints. Just as data centers begin their transition to 400G and 800G, the bar is rising towards the next evolution of 1.6T and 3.2T, with the same demands for high performance and low power with minimal financial impact. This presentation will discuss the underlying technologies needed to enable 1.6T and 3.2T, and how technological advancements in both electronics and optics will enable a higher level of integration that will have a lasting impact for future generations of optical connectivity.
