There are times in life, when a stand must be taken. It is at these periods of being outspoken and

alone, that dictate the future of that life - my life - and the lives of others ...

Steven Gordon Young

we parted once again A Toast To Good Fortune. Steve Gordon Young

YES! Excitement was in the air when PhiSigma Sigma and Tau Kappa Epsilon won first prize in the float contest.

3

It was a fun filled time when the banner contest was judged, with Afro-AmericanStudent Organization winning first prize for a picture that clearly showed a circle of togetherness.

''ONE MORE TIME'' It doesn't hurt to have one more big win on your list, does it? We added to our list when we fired up a 43-19 win over The Gannon Golden Knights. The weather was not one for chanting and screaming, but didn't stop the bengaf fans. Amanda Francis

A little water wasn't going to stop this campus from taking in some tunes and wolfing down some weiners. Sigma Tau Gamma sponsored Buffalo State's 1990 Rocktoberfest and just because they know how to keep the par-te' rolling, the student body rocked to GAME– LON in the comforts of the Social Hall. Of course, Alpha Sigma Tau had some mugs for sale, which meant a definite brewski? Thanks to "Dead" Economics Society for some eco– nomically price pumpkins. Wait! About those weiners - Definitely an additive! Steve Gordon Young

THE VARIETY SHOW There is always a first for everything. Two Tears In A Bucket Productions and Student Life proved it, with the first variety show that combined the talents of faculty, staff and students. A total of seventeen innovative acts created a show that had the audience cheer– ing. The audience was treated to a wild perfor– mance. There were solo singers, bands, poet– ry reading, dancing, rap groups, skits and a whole host of new, innovative performers. Yet, another year that BUFF. STATE'S creative– ness reaches great heights. THE NIGHT BEFORE When the sun goes down and the wind rustles against the window, a transformation occurs. Darkness sets in. The door is shut and the lamp is turned on. There is a faint sound of a radio. A desk and book stare me down. A meager chair is offered and I take it. There is a job to be done. My mind reluctantly grasps the book and I begin my long undesirable trek through worded paths. The pages keep coming, page after page. There seems no end to this journey. A cup of coffee keeps me going; I don't really like coffee, but it serves its purpose. The minutes go by ever so softly. I hear the pump of my heart beat like a clock - tic-tock, tic-tock. After a while, my eyes begin to get heavy. Only the tiny tears of exhaustion are able to keep them open. All the bones in my body feel weird ... soft? My brain is pounding, generating ideas. I try to ignore the endless pleas for rest. The fad that my stomach is growling doesn't help either. Every so often, my head nods down and immediately up again. ''I have to learn this material," I repeat over and over again. Once more, my head nods down and quickly up again. The sweat from each and every minute pore in my body sluggishly seeps out. The desk, book, and student - "ME,'' all begin to huddle into one configuration. $lowly, cautiously, almost defeated, I lift my head towards the window. There's a light. I made it! Steven Gordon Young

FRIENDS In your first weeks of being a freshman friends seem so few, it's as if you had landed on another planet. ew faces give a feeling of loneliness but in time those very faces become more familiar. As the days go by, bonds become closer and turn into friendships. ow it seems you do everything together, whether it's just watching T.V. , drinking beer, bumming out, cramming for tests, staying up all night shooting the breeze or just spending a night on the town. Friends play an important role in our life and we tend to depend upon them for support, encouragement and just being there. Shannon Maurer

BENGAL PAUSE Bengal Pause might be the only time that most people have for themselves. It has been a time and continues to be a time that students occupy themselves w ith meetings, sororities, fraternity gatherings, and to be bombarded with sales people gathered in the Student Union giving students information about their groups and organizations. Bengal pause is on weekqays from 12:15-1:30. Usually there are special speakers who talk to students and sometimes, exams are scheduled between that time, but the main fact is that it is there for you, and you have to make the best of it. ENJOY! Amanda Francis

WEEKENDS THANK GOD! The weekend is finely here. It's the only time of the week where you get to call the shots. When you live on campus the weekend really starts Thursday night since most students never even heard of a Friday class. Girls spend hours in front of the mirror trying to look their best. The evening starts at a local bar drinking and dancing the night away. Friday seems to be the day to lay low and study just a bit, you know you wouldn't want to bust a blood vessel or anything. You do what you have to, like work and stuff but as the daylight fades from the sky the partier once again comes out in us. There is nothing like spending time with good friends; around Buffalo the things to do seems to be: bar hopping, going to the movies, working, dancing, going to art openings, bowling and going to sporting events. Saturday is the day to sleep in and to take your time with eyerything you do. I don't want to leave out those people who have to work. Once you get yourself together you reach for the books and study until4 pm. Yeah, right. You pop a few aspirin for your pounding head just so you can make it through the night but no matter how tired you are there is always enough energy to go out. Sunday is always the day to rest and to add finishing touches to homework. Sure, if you believe that one I'll tell you another one. Shannon Maurer

TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT

College is mainly coming to classes, registering, finding the classes you need, and making it your duty to attend all as frequently as possible. Studying for exams and doing research papers may be the hardest thing to do, but rewards do come after all the work. It may be one of three hundred people or 10 people, classes are required of you, whether it be late at night or early in the morning, it may be hard, it may be easy (which is doubtable). It's possible that you find what you want, or don' t find what you want but the relief comes when you get the good grades. Amanda Francis
