YEAR 12 Status

Students are able to select Achievement Standards depending on their area of interest, and can concentrate on 'business' standards such as cashflow forecasting and business structures, or 'on-farm' standards such as livestock reproduction or land use. As such, agribusiness at Christ's College helps prepare students for a career in the business world and/or the agricultural sector. Students also learn about the environment, climate change, and sustainability. The teaching method requires students to work independently at times, and to take responsibility for their own learning. To assist we have high calibre guest speakers and field trips to places of interest. It is a fast-paced, fun environment where students engage with real business leaders and grapple with the real problems of running a business, whether that is in the primary sector or other sectors of interest to the students. Year 13 Agribusiness students also enter the Young Enterprise Scheme and set up real businesses. They become company directors and develop products, marketing strategies, financial statements, business plans, and buy and sell products to make real profit.They receive a great deal of advice and support froma range of people, and come under thewing of an experienced business mentor to assist themas they growand develop. Year 13 is aNCEA subject andwill contribute up to 30 credits at Level 3.Studentswill be required to select at least one externally-assessed standard froma list of four. Topics include: • starting up and operating a sustainable business • marketing • HR issues • profitability of primary produce • environmental issues • internal and external factors acting on a business • strategic investment

Description Agribusiness at Christ's College is a subject which combines Achievement Standards from three different subject areas – agribusiness, business studies and agricultural/horticultural science. Students are able to select Achievement Standards depending on their area of interest, and can concentrate on 'business' standards such as cashflow forecasting and business structures, or 'on-farm' standards such as livestock reproduction or land use. As such, agribusiness at Christ's College helps prepare students for a career in the business world and/or the agricultural sector. Students also learn about the environment, climate change, and sustainability. Topics may include: • future-proofing your business • cashflow forecasting • business structures • external and internal business factors • land use/sustainability/environmental factors

• livestock reproduction • livestock management

Teaching and learning will include the use of real life case studies, with visits from guest speakers who are leaders in their industry, and field trips.
