This course offers students the opportunity to undertake a course that will provide a lead into the following engineering careers: • Mechanical engineering • Light and heavy fabrication engineering

• Automotive engineering • Heavy diesel engineering • Manufacturing engineering

• Aircraft engineering • Marine engineering

Description This practical course is designed so that students can be exposed to a number of engineering options and gives the students the opportunity tomake an informed engineering career choice. Students will have the opportunity to construct a personal practical project that is used to demonstrate their knowledge, skills and ability, backed up with a log of evidence used to develop their curriculum vitae. Visits to engineering industries is part of the course and an opportunity to do work experience is also an option. Assessment All unit standards are internally assessed over the course using Industry Training Organisation delivery and moderated assessment material. US20917 Demonstrate a basic knowledge of engineering materials. (2 credits) US20799 Demonstrate knowledge of common engineering materials. (4 credits) Note: At the time of writing, the Industry Training Organisation responsible for engineering unit standards is currently reviewing some units and new units will be added to the course once the content has been finalised.
