Brigitte Bertschi Financial Aid Endowment Fund

Established 2004

The Brigitte Bertschi Financial Aid Endowment Fund honors our founder’s dedication to socioeconomic diversity. It ensures 100% coverage of accepted families’ demonstrated need for financial assistance (as determined by the third-party financial aid system Clarity). Financial aid covers all aspects of a Bertschi education including tuition, after school care, lunch service, learning services, and summer camp. We remain committed to providing all students access to our rich curriculum and to support our families during their entire time at Bertschi. Bertschi is proud to be able to support a need-blind admission process. This means that qualified applicants are admitted to our school regardless of their financial means. Families who qualify for financial aid recently increased from 18% to 20% of the overall student body. Awards range from a few thousand dollars to $36,700, with the average in 2024-25 of $23,186.

We extend our special gratitude to the families of the class of 2024 who made contributions to this fund through a a fifth grade legacy gift.

General Endowment Fund

Established 1998

The General Endowment Fund enriches student learning by providing essential resources for the ongoing enhancement of our educational program and campus facilities. These funds offer unrestricted support, empowering the school with maximum flexibility to address various priorities and adapt to the specific needs of any given year. Earnings from this fund support all aspects of our academic program, from textbooks and supplies, updated classroom technology, visiting STEM experts, and experiential learning programs including hands-on activities and off-campus field trips that enrich student learning and curiosity. Sarah M. Hughes Memorial Endowment Fund

Established 2013

This memorial fund was established in honor of a beloved Bertschi student and provides the school with additional financial aid funds to support the children of our faculty and staff who attend Bertschi. This year, six students received financial aid supported in part by this endowment fund. There are many Bertschi graduates and past faculty/staff families who have benefitted from this financial aid, and many who will in the future, thanks to the generosity of the families who invest in this fund.

Faculty Compensation Endowment Fund

Established 2014

We believe that to best serve our students and families, we must first and foremost invest in our teaching staff. Our extraordinary faculty are the heart of this school. The Faculty Compensation Endowment helps us underwrite competitive salary and benefits packages to attract and retain world-class teachers. Bertschi has a standing commitment to pay at or above the 75th percentile for peer independent schools in the Puget Sound region. This compensation philosophy guides our budgetary decisions and ensures that we continue to foster a supportive environment to work and thrive as a teacher.

Professional Development Endowment Fund

Established 2002

The most effective teachers–those who spark student curiosity and instill a love of learning–are themselves lifelong learners. Having an endowment specifically set aside for professional development is one of the ways Bertschi supports our incredible faculty. Our teachers are encouraged to explore and take advantage of learning opportunities outside the classroom: from learning about AI and other innovations at SXSW EDU, to connecting with colleagues and educational leaders from across the country at annual conferences and summits. This past fall, eight Bertschi faculty and staff members were able to attend the NAIS People of Color Conference fully covered by the school.
