CELEBRATING HERITAGE HONORING HISTORY

This May, we proudly celebrate both Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month and Jewish American Heritage Month—two observances that recognize the vibrant cultures, rich histories, and enduring contributions of communities that have helped shape the American experience.

AANHPI Heritage Month highlights the diverse traditions and stories of over 50 ethnic groups from Asia, the Pacific Islands, and Native Hawaiian communities. From science and the arts to politics and public service, the AANHPI community has played a vital role in shaping our society. This month commemorates both the arrival of the first Japanese immigrants in 1843, and the major role Chinese laborers played in completing the transcontinental railroad in 1869. It’s a time to celebrate resilience, creativity, and community, while also recognizing the work that remains in addressing bias and inequality.

Jewish American Heritage Month honors the deep and enduring legacy of Jewish Americans who have contributed to the country’s cultural, intellectual, and civic life. From Nobel Prize-winning scientists and civil rights activists to artists, authors, and public servants, Jewish Americans have helped build the foundation of American progress. This month also serves as a reminder of the importance of combating antisemitism and fostering understanding across all backgrounds. It’s an opportunity to explore Jewish history, traditions, and the incredible stories of perseverance and community.
