Central Washington University Board of Trustees May 16, 2025

ACTION – Reduction of Differential Tuition on College of Business Graduate Programs RCW 28B.15.067 establishes tuition policy for the state of Washington, including a closely prescribed policy for resident undergraduate tuition. However, section (4) of this state law allows institutions a high degree of latitude for all other categories of students. University governing boards “may reduce or increase full-time tuition fees for all students other than resident undergraduates, including nonresident students, summer school students, and students in other self-supporting degree programs. Percentage increases in full-time tuition may exceed the fiscal growth factor.” The College of Business requests authority to reduce the existing differential tuition rate for all Graduate programs from 150% of the standard Resident Graduate rate to 125% of the standard Resident Graduate rate. In July 2020 the Board approved the creation of the tuition differential rate of 150% of the standard Resident Graduate rate for the College of Business Accounting programs. As the College moves to establish a new MBA program for fall 2025 they are seeking to reduce the price point for this program and all other graduate-level programs they offer. This will ensure a competitive place in the market while maintaining a high value for students. The table below shows the change from 150% to 125% of the standard resident graduate rate per credit. College of Business Non-Resident Graduate tuition rates will remain aligned with the standard rates for Non-Resident Graduate programs:

Tuition Type

Current CoB Graduate Rate (150%)

Proposed CoB Graduate Rate (125%)

Decrease

Resident Graduate

$569.90

$474.88

$(95.02)

We recommend the following motion:

The Board of Trustees of Central Washington University hereby approves the reduction of the differential tuition for resident graduate tuition rates in the College of Business from 150% to 125% of the standard resident graduate tuition rate.
