Central Washington University Board of Trustees May 16, 2025
Action – Course Material Access Program Implementation and Rate Fiscal Year 2026 The Wildcat Shop at Central Washington University exists primarily to provide faculty selected required course materials to students so that they have the best chance for success in the classroom. With the expansion of digital course materials, the used textbook market is no longer viable, and the university bookstore business model needs to adapt or face severe financial consequences. After extensive research and conversations with stakeholders including student and faculty groups (Resident Hall Association, ASCWU Directors and Senate, Student Surveys, Wildcat Shop Advisory Board, Faculty Senate, etc.) about how best to perform these functions in a financially viable manner, the Wildcat Shop will implement the Course Material Access Program (CAP) in Fall 2025. As part of this program all undergraduate students will be assessed a charge of $249.00 per quarter to receive all required course materials with ISBN numbers, this includes digital and physical textbooks, courseware, and access codes. All undergraduate students will have the option to opt out of this charge prior to the add/drop deadline and can procure their own course materials. More information on the course material access program (CAP) can be found at https://wildcatshop.net/topic/cap
We recommend the following motion:
The Board of Trustees of Central Washington University hereby approves the implementation of the Course Material Access Program with the rate of $249 per undergraduate student per quarter for fiscal year 2026.
