THE GIFT OF TIME
I remember sometime around the holiday season in the late 1980s, I was visiting my grandparents in Hawaii, and my grandfather came through the door carrying a huge box. You may think it was some cool new toy like an Atari or boombox, but I’ll go ahead and spoil it and say it wasn’t anything like that. It was a microwave. We unboxed the machine, set it up on the counter, and watched in awe as a plate of something or other we put inside spun around on the little dish and came out piping hot. While it wasn’t a toy for my siblings and me, it was still cool. OUR MISSION TO HELP YOU MAKE EVERY MOMENT COUNT
concept. I won’t go as far as to say I based the creation of BLG Environmental Services on a microwave, but our goal with every project is to give people back meaningful time with their investment. Of course, we want our work to look aesthetically beautiful and be structurally perfect on every project. But we also want the end result to be something that serves you and your family. We want your outdoor space to be a spot for you to sit and reflect, spend time with your friends and family, and create new memories. We do all of the heavy lifting for you so you can have that time back and spend it how you please. And during a month like December, when everything feels hectic due to the holidays, school vacations, and everything in between, it can be easy to lose sight of those special moments. It’s during weeks, months, or years like these when something like time seems to be in short supply. Ultimately, this is the service we want to provide our
What I noticed then, and realize even more now as an adult with a microwave of my own, was that just by my grandparents spending money — let’s go ahead and call it an investment — they could save themselves time. What a concept for my childhood brain to toss around! Gone were the days of Grandma or Grandpa spending the majority of our holiday evenings with them stuck in the kitchen; they were able to get that time back and spend it with us instead.

Hiya, newsletter friends, it’s me, Gavin! Last time I wrote here, I told you all about how I opened up my very first bank with my sisters, which was a huge success, by the way. Since then, I’ve been up to the usual things like building my own inventions, working on the farm, and going to school.
But this year, I have a class at my school called an elective, and for my elective, I got to choose one instrument to learn. My mom asked me
what I wanted to do, and for some reason, I chose piano. My dad had a keyboard in his office that he lets me use now, and I bring it back and forth to school every day. I also practice with it almost every night at home, too. I won’t lie; learning the piano is way harder than building a hand-washing station or starting a bank, but I like that it makes me focus really hard. That way, when I finally nail a song I’ve been practicing, I know that it’s because of how hard I worked. And even though playing the piano felt hard at first, I’m getting better every day, and I want to keep practicing so I can improve even more! Plus, now that I’ve been playing piano, my dad says I’m something called a “Renaissance man.” Apparently, it means that I’m good at a bunch of stuff! So, you never know; by the next newsletter entry I write, I may just be performing a song or two on my piano. Or, I’ll be on to my next adventure. What can I say?
