Meet Our New CEO BILL DEYOUNG, PROVIDENCE LIFE SERVICES, CEO We are excited to welcome Bill DeYoung as our new President and CEO. With nearly 30 years of service to Providence, Bill brings a deep connection to our mission, extensive experience, and a commitment to compassionate senior care.

His ties to Providence are both professional and personal. He attended a member church, volunteered at one of our nursing homes as a teen, and had family members who worked and lived in the organization. These experiences instilled a deep appreciation for serving seniors with dignity and love. After earning a degree in accounting, Bill worked in the public sector until a fellow church member, Scott Studebaker, informed him about a CFO position at Providence. “Bill has always had a heart for service and a sharp mind for leadership. His transition to Providence wasn’t just a career change, it was a calling,” Scott shared. Bill joined

Providence in 1995 and became Chief Operations Officer in 2016. Bill has also contributed significantly to many organizations in the field of aging services. He chaired the LeadingAge Illinois State Association, served on its board, and helped establish Caring Communities, a collaborative insurance program for nonprofit senior care providers. After Caring Communities formed, Bill continued in various board leadership roles for over 20 years. As Bill steps into the CEO role, his vision is clear: to build on our solid foundation while preparing Providence for the challenges and opportunities of the

future. With his financial expertise and commitment to innovation, Bill aims to build efficiencies through technology, including automation, to streamline operations and free up resources to best care for our residents. At the same time, Bill emphasizes the importance of honoring Providence’s legacy. “I don’t see myself as stepping in to reinvent the wheel,” he explains. “My role is to build on what’s already working and prepare the organization to continue serving our residents with the best possible care.” Bill credits his faith as a guiding force in his career, shaping his decision- making approach and dedication to the mission.

“Providence is more than an organization—it’s a ministry,” he says. The staff, who show up daily with passion and commitment, are the heart of who we are. It’s their passion for the mission and their desire to care for the elderly in our community that makes Providence who we are. It’s what makes us unique.” As Providence Life Services welcomes Bill as its third the organization since its founding: to provide better care for seniors in a way that reflects God’s love and compassion. A New Chapter: Reflecting on Our

After 23 years in our previous building, we decided to move the corporate staff to a new office just down the street. This change reflects our evolving needs as an organization and our commitment to operating efficiently while continuing to serve our clients and team members with excellence. Our new office at 18670 Graphics Drive may be smaller but will support collaboration and focus. The streamlined layout provides a modern and comfortable environment, encouraging flexibility and adaptability. While the move marks the end of an era, it also represents a fresh start. The new space inspires us to continue striving toward our mission while embracing opportunities to grow and adapt in a changing world. We are grateful to our employees, clients, and partners for their support during this transition, and we look forward to welcoming you to our new office. Change can be bittersweet but also opens the door to exciting possibilities. New Space, Same Mission: Providence at Home Settles In

Transitions come with boxes, bubble wrap, and, sometimes, unexpected blessings. At the end of last year, the Providence at Home and Providence Hospice teams also underwent a significant move. They are now together under one roof, bringing new energy and a renewed sense of connection. When Providence first moved into the Tinley Park office decades ago, there was a flurry of activity. At one point, the team occupied a floor together. The building was bustling with their weekly education meetings, annual education sessions, and everyday chatter. Eventually,

the team moved to the second floor with the rest of the corporate staff. When the team heard about the upcoming move, the idea of relocating seemed like a huge change. It was. It was also a huge undertaking. Packing also became a way to lighten the load. As one team member put it, it was a chance to sort, simplify, and obtain a fresh start— a good purge. The process of downsizing felt like downsizing a house, a fitting analogy. It was daunting in the beginning but incredibly satisfying in the end. The new space is cleaner, brighter,

and tidier. One of the team members says, “It quickly began to feel like home.” Providence at Home is now located in a townhome at the Victorian Village campus in Homer Glen, where there’s a sense of grounded purpose. It’s more than just a physical move; it’s a new chapter. “This work setting feels more aligned with who we are and what we do,” one staff member commented. What stands out most in this transition is how our teams have grown more connected. With Providence at Home staff under one roof, communication feels more

natural. Collaboration happens organically. “It’s like being together on the 1st floor again.” Many familiar faces are still here, bringing the same flexibility, resilience, and dedication. As with any change, there’s been an adjustment period. But they’ve approached it with curiosity and care, asking ourselves important questions: How can we improve our space? How can we grow into it? The result? A reestablished rhythm, a sense of flow, and a shared understanding that we’re still living out the same mission—just in a new space that feels a little more like Home.

How can I learn more? Contact your benefit administrator for more information. Benefits can be used for whatever you wish. Disability insurance offers the protection you need plus benefits that you can use toward housing, college tuition, monthly bills, and other expenses. Your plan pays in addition to other coverage you may have, like medical and accident insurance. Disability insurance covers disabling illnesses or injuries that Worker’s Compensation or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits may not cover. Many workers mistakenly assume that a disabling illness or injury will be covered by Worker’s Compensation or SSDI. In reality, Worker’s Compensation addresses on-the-job accident and/or illnesses only, and SSDI covers disabilities that are more long term in nature (those expected to last longer than one year). Also, there are stringent eligibility requirements for SSDI, and an average processing time of more than two years.

Hallmark of Caring 2025: A Fresh Way to Celebrate Our Team Big things are coming for the 2025 Hallmark of Caring! This year, we’re introducing a new format designed to keep the focus right where it belongs: on the incredible people who make our communities shine every day. Instead of gathering off-site, each campus will host its own on-campus recognition ceremony. Residents and staff will be invited to honor the team members who have been selected as this year’s Hallmark of Caring honorees. It’s a chance to celebrate the heart of our mission right where the work happens. Each campus will also coordinate a special meal for all employees and honorees, making the day festive and meaningful. Making a Difference Bus Driver’s Kindness Makes a Lasting Impression

Another noted, “He’s always friendly and always willing to listen—he loves a good visit.” His thoughtful gestures are a regular part of life at Victorian Village. “He comes around and brings us cookies. The other day, he even brought in eclairs from Orland Bakery!” And when it comes to transportation, his dedication shines. “He always lingers around to see if someone needs a ride,” a resident said. “He’s very patient—he even waits for people at their visits. We never have to wait; he’s always waiting for us.” One resident remembered, “He brought me to an eye doctor’s visit one day and ensured I not only got inside but all the way to my room safely.” Wally’s career has been defined by hard work and service. He began in construction, working alongside his father. His professional path took him through various roles, including time as a volunteer firefighter and bus driver for special needs children. However, he spent most of his career driving tractor- trailers and serving as a union

steward, negotiating labor contracts and advocating for his colleagues. Jamie said, “Wally always goes the extra mile for our residents. Recently, he noticed that residents struggled to carry their shopping bags back to their rooms. Seeing an opportunity to help, Wally reached out to the manager at Meijer and arranged for new shopping carts, making it easier for residents to bring their purchases home.” Even residents who are independent drivers take advantage of Wally’s support. “One of the ladies comes from her townhome when we go for special entertainment,” someone shared. “She drives, but when the bus comes, she joins in for outings to the park and various events.” Wally’s dedication extends beyond his professional life. As a father of three and a passionate pool player, he brings a strong sense of community and camaraderie to everything he does. Despite his impressive career, he remains humble, often brushing off praise with a

smile and a simple, “It’s just what you’re supposed to do.” His humility is a source of inspiration for all who know him. At Victorian Village, he is vital to the residents’ lives, providing transportation, conversation, friendship, and a helping hand. He values the flexibility of his role, working 12 to 15 hours a week and making each trip an opportunity to connect with those he serves. “You accomplish something with this job,” he says. “People need you, and you find a way to get them where they need to be. That’s what it’s all about.” Wally’s role is not just about transportation; it’s about making a difference in the lives of the residents he serves. Through his actions, Wally embodies the heart of Victorian Village—a place where people care for each reminds us that sometimes, the most significant impact comes from the simplest acts of kindness. other, and service goes beyond duty. WALLY SOPIARZ Bus Driver, Victorian Village

At Victorian Village, Wally Sopiarz is known not just as a driver but as a friend. Always willing to lend a hand, he goes above and beyond to help residents attend medical appointments, shopping trips, and community outings. A retired Marine and former truck driver with 30 years of experience, Wally knows the importance of responsibility and service. “I do this because I can,” he says. “It’s not about the money; it’s about serving people and knowing you’re helping someone accomplish something.” Residents agree that Wally’s kindness makes a lasting impression. “He brought me to go vote and was nice about it,” one resident shared. “He wouldn’t even take a tip.”

Faith, Family, and Finding Purpose: “It makes you feel good, working and helping people.”

she works as a Registered Nurse, a role she has grown into with compassion and dedication. Her Christian faith is a cornerstone of her care philosophy, believing it’s crucial to treat people with the same love that Christ has for us. Before joining Providence, Ashley worked at another long-term care facility in Crown Point. She earned her CNA license during her senior year of high school and jumped straight into the healthcare world in the summer of 2020. “I love the people. I love the residents. I love the staff,” she shared. “It’s a fun environment to work in. Sure, every job has challenges, but overall, I enjoy it here.” Even though nursing was not part of her family background, her mom has a business degree, and none of her three sisters went into healthcare, Ashley knew it was the right path for her. “I am actually the first nurse in my family,” she said. “Sometimes I ask myself, ‘How did I end up here?’ But I would not trade it.”

Ashley has been with Providence for nearly three years. She currently works the evening shift at Park Place of St. John and will soon transition to the morning shift. In that time, she has found not only meaningful work but also a real community. The support and camaraderie she has experienced from her colleagues and the residents have made her feel like she’s part of a big, caring family. “Ashley brings so much light and energy to our campus,” says Terri Vercel, Director of Nursing. “Her caregiving skills are God-gifted, her compassion is genuine, and the residents feel it every day.” “One of my favorite memories is pretty recent,” she said. “Some of us, in the evenings, something for dinner, and we all go down to the first floor to grab food together. It’s simple, but it’s special.” Outside of work, Ashley is keeping busy with something very exciting: wedding planning. She is getting married this July, and most of started doing a monthly potluck. Everyone brings

her free time is wrapped up in preparing for the big day. She’s excited to start this new chapter of her life and is grateful for the support she’s received from her Providence family. It’s hard to find something that Ashley’s co-workers wouldn’t know about her, as they’re a tight-knit group. One thing they might not know about Ashley is that she used to live in Utah between her sophomore and junior years of high school. When asked what keeps her grounded on the tough days, her answer was simple and sincere. “Knowing that what I am doing is not just for people. It is to glorify God. If you do not stay grounded in your belief in God, things can fall apart.” Ashley’s journey is one of compassion, commitment, and purpose. She is a joyful presence on the Park Place team, and her heart for

For Ashley, working at Providence is not just a job. It is a calling. Ashley’s journey with Providence began while she was still in nursing school. Another Park Place of St. John employee encouraged her to apply for the open role. Not only was it close to her home, but the individual knew that Ashley would like the corporation’s religious background since Ashley is a pastor’s daughter. She’s more than willing to support and promote any religious background she can. She started as a CNA and juggled school and work to earn her degree. Today,
