Friends to Act.” Christians must be kind and loving and humble, praising God and not themselves. Object Lesson S ham R ocks ,' , Objects: A small block of cement or flat stone, and the lids from four small card board boxes. (Paste a red paper cross on the cement. Plaster the boxes with ,a thin mixture of cement. Paste the outline of a church on one box, a dollar sign on an other, a blue heart on the third, and a small black imitation college cap on the last.) Lesson: How many of you know what shamrocks are? “ Plants!” - The answer would ordinarily be a good one, but I have with me this morning some “shamrocks” which are not plants. Did you know that there are real rocks and sham or false rocks? These four are .sham rocks. One of these sham rocks is a “church rock,” another is a “money rock,” the third is a “loyalty rock,” and the last is an “education rock.” Rocks are often used for foundations in building. Paul was thinking of founda tions for eternal life, and he said: “ Other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ” (1 Cor. 3:11). Paul knew that people would be building their hopes of eternal life on other foundations than Christ, and therefore he gave this warning. People should never rest until their souls are resting on Jesus Christ, the sure Foundation. Let us look at this first, rock. It has a church on it. The church is a wonderful help in living the Christian life; but God never intended that people should rest their hope of eternal life on the fact that they were members of a church. Many people

■are making this mistake, and sooner or later it will be discovered that they were resting on a sham rock. Seel This rock collapses when I press my hand down on it. The next sham rock has a dollar sign on it. Some people are resting their hope of heaven on getting money enough to give great sums to the poor. This, too, is a sham rofck, and collapses as I press on it. The third rock has a blue heart. Many people say, “I am ‘true blue,’ honest, and loyal; and, therefore, I have hopes of heaven.” This is a sham rock, and col lapses with very little pressure.

The1 fourth rock has a college cap on it. It reminds us of education and culture. Education and culture are good in their proper places, but they never should be taken as foundation stones for eternal life. With only a little pressure, this is proved to be a sham rock. Here is the true rock, with a red cross on it. It reminds us of Jesus Christ and His death on the cross for our sins. Ne amount of pressure will make it collapse. It is a real rock. Don’t trust sham rocks; trust the real Rock—Jesus Christ! Will some, of you boys and girls just now raise your hand and thus indicate to God that you want to accept Christ—the true Rock, as your Saviour?

Where a friend o f girls pre sents the girls’ best Friend

Dear Miss Scott: I am coming—one of the multitude graduating from college fairly well equip ped to do something, but having apparently no place to go and nothing to do. I do not need to make a living, so I am better off than many others, but am concerned in what may be even more important—mak ing a life. .1 want my life to amount to something for others. I have had training along lines o f vocational guidance and have thought much along various lines of social service, but I cannot seem to get my mind settled on anything. As a child, I looked forward to going to China as a missionary! Frankly speaking, my religious views have changed since I have learned to think for myself. I can no longer hold the simple views of the Bi ble I was taught to accept as a child. I

am sure you will not approve of that, and I sometimes wish I could see things as I did then, but I cannot help it now. I still long to do something to help others to a higher, nobler life, which, after all, is Christianity in practical, working reality. I believe God has a place and work for every life. Can you help me to know how to find what place is for me? If so, you will have the deep appreciation and grati tude of O ne W ho I s A ll at S ea . My dear “ One Who Is All at Sea” : I am glad you wrote freely to me. May I reply as frankly to you? I appreciate your ideal of building a useful life, but there must be first a solid foundation be fore you can erect a worth-while super-
