SEPTEMBER 1 When He Comes “ Now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face" (1 Cor. 13:12). At Christ’s coming, He will fashion each o f His own into the likeness of His glori fied body, and “ so shall we ever be with the Lord.” What an eternal day o f rejoicing for the saints of G od! Those long de parted to be with Him, and those whose weary feet are treading still the sands of the wilderness, all gathered round Him, to go no more out forever—with Him and like Him in transcendent glory! — H erbert R. F rancis . He told me to watch for His coming, No matter how long He might be; He bade me be ready to meet Him, Christ Jesus who died on the tree. His words are so plain and so simple, Their meaning I cannot mistake; And so I’m just watching and waiting; His promise He never will break. —O swald J. S m ith . “ The people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits” (Dan. 11:32). Christ’s sustaining, upholding power is infinite; but it is only secured to us “through faith.”—T. L. C uyler . A woman was famed for her sanctity and her beautiful life. When people vis ited her town, if they were interested in divine things, they almost always went to see her. One day some one called, and when he was ushered into her room he said, “I am so glad to see you ; you are the woman of the strong faith!” “No, sir,” she replied. “ But,” he said, “everybody tells me what great things you have done.” “No, I am the woman o f the weak faith in the strong Saviour,” she said. —W . Y. F ullerton . To meet with certain men and women today is to be blessed. They may be talk ing to you about the ordinary things of life, yet the whole time you are conscious that you are in the presence of a man or a woman of God. When they get up to speak, there is a divine unction resting upon them; when they get down to pray, they reach the Throne—yea, rather Him who is seated thereonjfjjtheir t e s t i m o n y is that “ God . . . is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” They are people who have a testimony far greater than ever they are allowed to know or realize. They have been on the mount alone with God, and they have come down with shining faces o f which they themselves are uncon scious.— C olin C. K err . SEPTEMBER 3 Having Been with Jesus “ They marveled; and they took knowl edge o f them that they had been with Jesus” ( Acts 4:13). SEPTEMBER 2 Strong Through Faith

SEPTEMBER 4 Divine Protection

“H e that is begotten o f God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him n of’ (1 John 5:18). Never in his own sole will and intention can Satan intermeddle, in any way, with the obedient child of God . . . There is an inmost Presence, encompassing the heart, nearer than hand of devil or man can come, which will always shield the inner man from the touch of the wicked one. “He that toucheth you, toucheth the apple of his eye.” When our Lord Jesus was led int6 the wilderness to be tempted of the devil, we read that H e’was “filled with the Spirit.” Between His heart and the tempt er were the ramparts o f the Spirit’s might. —M. G. C. SEPTEMBER 5 As He Promised “And the Lord gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him" (1 Ki. 5:12). From the case o f Solomon, and thou sands of a similar kind, we learn first the rule of God’s giving is—as He has prom ised. The histories of the Lord’s faithful ness are so many that time would fail us to repeat them all. God’s words have always in due time been justified by God’s acts. God has dealt with men according to His promise. Whenever they have taken hold upon the promise, and said, “ Do as Thou hast said,” God has responded to the plea, and proved that it is no vain thing to trust Him. Throughout all time it has been God’s unvarying rule to keep His word to the letter and to the moment. . . . Believe the promise, and thus prove your self to be an inheritor of it. —C harles H addon S purgeon . SEPTEMBER 6 Trust God “I will trust, and not be afraid" (Isa. 12 : 2 ). You have been asking for precious things: for fruits o f the Spirit; for love, joy, and peace; for knowledge, strength, and patience; for victory and glory. In stead of enriching you with new hopes and j oys, He seems to come to you for the pur pose o f crushing and annihilating the few you have. Nevertheless, for the Father’s sake, in Christ’s name, take the cup . . . Lo I one by one the precious things you were demanding are found to have been in the cup, and to have been communicated by means o f it, so that the great and un endurable affliction from which you shrank is ascertained at last to be the greatest of all your blessings.— G eorge B owen . SEPTEMBER 7 The Touch of the Saviour’s Hand “For we have not a high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling o f our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin” (Heb 4:15). The sympathy o f Jesus expressed itself in no mere words, but in tears. “Jesus
