With mental health becoming a top priority throughout the county, Public Works sought to specifically address mental health challenges related to public works and construction. Given that the construction industry exhibits some of the highest suicide rates, it was imperative that initiatives be tailored with this context in mind. In February 2025, a brief survey was distributed across the department, with results indicating strong support for the establishment of a mental health committee. Subsequently, the committee was formed, including representatives from the various divisions of Public Works. The committee held its kickoff meeting on May 22 and has conducted several meetings since to discuss ideas and begin implementation. MENTAL HEALTH COMMITTEE

MENTAL HEALTH CHAMPIONS
The Employee Resource Ambassadors (ERAs) are a dedicated group of individuals from various departments within Charlotte County Government and its constitutional offices, committed to promoting mental health wellness among employees and their families. Serving as points of contact within their departments, ERAs share up-to-date information on mental health resources, initiatives, and support options. Their responsibilities include attending monthly meetings to stay informed on current best practices, learning about available services, identifying departmental mental health needs, and promoting a culture of well-being in the workplace. They communicate these needs to the Mental Health Champions Taskforce, helping shape supportive initiatives. ERAs also advocate for the use of mental health resources—such as My Well-Being, the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and Cigna Behavioral Health—while working to reduce stigma. Each ambassador receives Mental Health First Aid training to better identify, understand, and respond to mental health and substance use challenges. With a monthly time commitment of approximately one hour, ERAs play a vital role in improving the culture of Charlotte County Government and increasing the visibility and utilization of mental health support systems. As we transition
to Aetna, we look forward to sharing all the new resources with you. This marks the ERA of Health and Wellness.
