AQUATIC MITIGATION SITES AQUATIC MITIGATION SITES

A mitigation project site is designed to restore, enhance, or preserve aquatic habitats. The purpose is to offset the damage caused by development or other activities that impact wetlands, streams, or other water bodies. Provides a way to compensate for the loss of aquatic functions and services, such as water purification, flood control, and habitat for wildlife. WHAT‘S AN AQUATIC MITIGATION SITE?

The Aquatic Weed Team restored a mitigation site that required substantial reclamation. Many hours were spent conducting mechanical removal of dense brush and exotic vegetation using only small, hand-operated equipment such as chainsaws and rakes. The delicate character of a mitigation site precluded the use of large earth-moving or cutting equipment to avoid negatively impacting non-invasive or beneficial vegetation.
