2025 AMCA CONFERENCE Scott Schermerhorn, Mosquito and Aquatic Weed Control Manager; Jeff Proffitt, Mosquito and Aquatic Weed Control Supervisor; and Beth Kovach, Biological Specialist, attended the 2025 American Mosquito Control Association (AMCA) Conference held in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This event attracted attendees from across the nation and various parts of the world, featuring presentations on research projects, mosquito-borne viruses, emerging technologies, legislative topics, operations, and more. Charlotte County was represented during the “Adult Vector Using ULV Applications” symposium, where Beth presented the results of field trials conducted in Charlotte County using a new product formulation applied via ground (truck) methods to combat local salt marsh mosquitoes. Additionally, Charlotte County MAWC staff participated in a field visit to the Puerto Rico Mosquito Vector Control Unit, where attendees learned about the agency’s mosquito surveillance and abatement strategies. With the dengue virus as the primary concern in that region, it was informative to observe how operations were tailored to address container- breeding mosquitoes and how in-house testing was conducted in the PCR laboratory.
