Biola Broadcaster - 1968-02

“Ye have need of patience after that ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.” In verse 13 we have the exhorta tion, “Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.” Here are the twin “fors.” To for bear represents tolerance of others. To forgive wipes the slate clean. When we are tempted to break loose and fly off the handle, we need to for bear, which means we need to put up with these things. To forgive means to forget freely, entirely, and eter nally. In our radio work we use a de- gauzer. This is an electronic device comprised of a series of magnets. After we have finished with a tape broadcast being returned from a sta tion we place it on the degauzer, and turn the tape around several times. Immediately, every single word is erased. If man can devise a little ma chine like this, think what God, in His almighty sovereign mercy and grace does in forgiving us. He wipes the slate clean, and He does it freely. Nothing remains whatsoever. Is this the way we face and consider the mistakes of others? The Apostle is saying, “Don’t harbor any resent ment whatsoever.” A mother had to discipline her son for something he had done. As a re sult, he was extremely unhappy with her. That night when he went to bed, he very carefully said his prayer. He remembered all of his friends and relatives, along with daddy a n d brother, but he purposely left out his mother. After the prayer was over, he got into bed and was being tucked in. Still in a cross mood, he said rath er spitefully, “Mommy, I guess you noticed I left you out.” You can imagine how it hurt the mother. So often, we act childish like this. We become offended because of some matter, quarrel, or difficulty. The fact is we just don’t want to forgive. We’d 21

which we are to be adorned today. In this modern, secular, “dog-eat-dog” society, meekness, in some people’s thinking, has become weakness. The two are not even remotely connected. It is said of Moses that he was meek, yet no one was more stern or force ful in his pronouncements or dealings with people than this patriarch of old. Meekness represents the fact that we are to be free from any re semblance to an overbearing attitude. The Lord Jesus reminds us that the meek shall inherit the earth. The fifth thing we are to put on is long-suffering. This has been de scribed as the marathon feature of a gracious spirit. As I consider my own life, I see how good I am at short suffering. When I’m called upon to endure something for a long period of time, problems have a tendency to arise. Patience soon gives out, and then I quickly give up. It’s extremely difficult to be tested and tried. The Lord says, “I want you to be long- suffering.” The Word of God says, (Continued from paoo t) OTHER STATES New Mexico 1310 8:00 A.M.
