Our planet is an amazing place, but it needs our help to thrive! Earth Day is a reminder that small actions can make a big difference in keeping our community clean and beautiful. As City of Midland employees, we take pride in our home, and one of the best ways to show it is by picking up litter and caring for our environment. Together, we can help create a cleaner, greener future for everyone! #EarthDay #MidlandCares #KeepMidlandBeautiful

How Does Code Enforcement Coincide with Earth Day? Contribution from Roderick Shields

When I was first asked this question, I had to take a moment to think about how the two intertwine. As a Code Enforcement Officer, much of our work revolves around enforcing city ordinances, often in black and white terms. However, at its core, Code Enforcement is about protecting public health and safety—many of our duties also contribute to environmental sustainability. Several common violations directly impact the environment. For example: Water nuisances can lead to illicit discharges into clean water

reservoirs, causing contamination that affects both wildlife and citizens. Debris accumulation creates unsanitary conditions, attracting vermin and contributing to pollution. Junk vehicles can leak hazardous fluids, contaminating soil and groundwater. When you see a Code Enforcement Officer taking photos or engaging with the community, remember—we’re not just enforcing rules; we’re helping to improve and sustain the quality of our environment. Code Enforcement plays a vital role in keeping our cities clean, safe, and environmentally responsible—not just on Earth Day, but every day.

The Administrative Services department has officially been renamed Human Relations and Development. This new name more accurately reflects our mission, the services we provide, and our strategic alignment with the City’s goals. More than just a name change, this shift underscores our commitment to providing the highest level of customer service while expanding opportunities for strategic development and career growth.

"Great leaders aren’t defined by their titles but by their actions. Lead by example, inspire those around you, and make a difference every day—because true leadership starts with you!"

Water Emergency

Thank you to all the hard- working City staff who stepped up this month, working tirelessly to repair water lines, restore service, and support our community. From those in the field to those answering calls, distributing water, and sharing vital information— you all embodied what it means to Be the Energy! In the face of the water crisis, City staff came together and exemplified excellence.

Honoring the life and legacy of Carroll Thomas, a proud Midland High graduate and dedicated leader who served as mayor from 1986 to 1992. During his time in office, he played a key role in shaping Midland’s future—overseeing the construction of a new central fire station, the expansion of City Hall, the acquisition of a new police headquarters, and laying the groundwork for a new air terminal. His impact on our community will not be forgotten. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.

Thank you to all the administrative professionals throughout the City of Midland! Your hard work, dedication, and behind-the-scenes efforts keep everything running smoothly. We appreciate all that you do! Administrative Professionals Day April 23rd
