Rabies prevention program The Ministry of Natural Resources is doing a “bait drop” project during the late summer season to help eliminate the risk of rabies in the Eastern Ontario region. MNR has contracted for an air drop of 30,000 pieces of bait containing the rabies vaccine over an area in the southern part of the region, including Wolfe Island, the Thousand Islands Bridge district, and around near Cornwall. The baits will help immunize most skunks, foxes, and raccoons within the designa- ted area, who may have wandered up from the upper New York state region into Ontario, where there are confirmed reports of rabid raccoons. The bait drop will help to eliminate both the risk of a full rabies condition developing in any of these animals, and also prevent them from carrying the virus into other parts of Eastern Ontario and Southern On- tario during their wanderings. – Gregg Chamberlain

La municipalité de Russell a dévoilé, lors de la réunionmunicipale du lundi 19 sep- tembre, le nouveau site Web officiel de la municipalité, qui a été mis en ligne le soir même. Ce nouveau siteWeb vient complètement remplacer l’ancien et a été remodelé d’un bout à l’autre. Ce projet est le fruit du travail entre Tina Collins, agente de communication à la municipalité, et d’une équipe formée demembres de chaque département. Cette équipe, qui travaillait sur le nouveau site depuis le mois de février, a réussi à faire cette mise à jour tout en respectant le bud- get alloué. Parmi les changements principaux se retrouvent les couleurs, qui ont été amélio- rées, et plus particulièrement l’architecture du site et la disposition de l’information. Sur l’ancien site, les gens devaient cliquer sur Mon canton ou Ma communauté , deux liens différents, ce qui, selonMme Collins, portait à confusion. Il était aussi très difficile pour les résidents de trouver certains services particuliers. Maintenant, le nouveau site est divisé en cinq sections, soit Résidents, Entreprises, Visiteurs, Hôtel de Ville et Relier, sur lesquelles, nous assure Mme Collins, il est plus facile de naviguer. Selon l’équipe de développement du site, l’un des problèmes principaux de l’ancien site était la grandeur et la résolution de l’écriture qui rendait la lecture bien difficile pour plusieurs résidents, un problème qui a maintenant été résolu avec le nouveau site. De plus, la recherche Google sera inté- grée dans le site, rendant la recherche au sein du site comme tel, bien plus facile. Un calendrier d’activités communautaires a aussi été ajouté au site Web, mais de façon bien plus efficace qu’auparavant, car il sera lié directement avec les calendriers d’autres organisations au sein de lamunicipalité.
