NeSmith Named Etowah County MVP The Etowah All-
County Football Players were recognized during the 2023 Etowah County Basketball Tournament. Etowah County’s MVP Award went to Quarterback Gauge NeSmith of Southside. Six other Southside players joined NeSmith on the All- County football team. They are Mason Teague, Cody Roberts, Jacob Strunk, Mark Fuller, Tytan Rich, and Koal Garrett. The All-county players from other Etowah County schools include: (Sardis) Garrett Burns, Gage Garner, Blaze Gerhart, Jose Ponce, Levi Martin, and Luke Martin; (Glencoe) Nolan Fairley (Offensive Award), Garrett Gaskin, Taylor Westcott, Gavin Bray, Jordan Haney, Caleb Chapman, and Cooper Horton: (Hokes Bluff) Conner Masters, Noah Sprayberry, Cole Stone, Kaleb Coshatt, Dakota Holcomb, Jaylen Simmons,
Anderson Morgan, and Brylon Pilkington; (West End) Josh Caroll (Defensive Award), Rockman Sainsbury, Thad Pearce, Dakota McKay, Jeremiah Smith, Evan Stancil, and Jaxon Hamby; (Gaston) Nehemiah Samples, Kyle Fitts, Luke Hollingsworth, Josh Hester, and Kobe Harris. The Etowah County Coach of The Year Award was presented to West End’s Derrick Sewell. Southside Junior and Etowah County MVP Gauge NeSmith has rolled up over 5,000 yards and has 51 touchdowns as a starter.

They include: (Sardis) Lanese Edmondson, Ava Harbian, and Hannah Hill; (Southside) Allie Condy, Makenzi Collins, and Emma Long; (Glencoe) Riley Carmack and Autumn Wallace; (Hokes Bluff) Julia Johnson, Gracie Bradley, Hailis Stiltz, and Genesis Collier; (West End) Addison Gilliland, Avari Patterson, and Meghan Rivera; and (Gaston) Emma Samples, Alexus Ponce, Brooklyn Whitten, and Makalyn Bishop. Three other Southside players joined Wilson on the All-County team. They are Kathryn Webb, Jovi Marble, and Sarakate Yancey. The All-county players from other Etowah County schools include: (Sardis) Vada Willmore, Caroline Johnson, and Sidney Rutledge; (Glencoe) Kinslee Gray, Madalyn Amberson, and Hailey Hanners; (Hokes Bluff) Kayla Traylor and Haley Kate Wellingham; (West End) Addi Mashburn, Vannessa Alldredge and Hope Jenkins; and (Gaston) Lauren Hard. The Etowah Boy’s All-County Cross Country players were recognized during the 2023 Etowah County Basketball Tournament. The boy’s MVP Award went to Jackson Griggs of Southside. Seven other Southside players joined Griggs on the All-County team. They include Evan Christopher, Hayden Tucker, Max Valentine, Sanjay Wright, Bram Van Gils, Jackson Brown, and Matthew Battles. The All-county players from other Etowah County schools were: (Hokes Bluff) Bryer Morrison, Ethan Patterson, and Mason Miller; (Glencoe) Conner Strawn and Conner Cothran; and (Sardis) Jonathan Lusk. The Etowah Girl’s All-County Cross Country players were recognized during the 2023 Etowah County Basketball Tournament. The girl’s MVP Award went to Katie Giles of Glencoe. Four other Glencoe players joined Giles on the girl’s All-County team. They include Sarah Ponder, Jaxson Sizemore, Chloe Douglas, and Alli Jo Amos.
