If you suffer from shoulder pain, you are joined by at least 13.7 million others, according to statistics from 2003. That makes it the third most common cause of musculoskeletal disorders. And 21% of people aged 70 and older suffer from shoulder pain that can be attributed to the rotator cuff. Rotator Cuff Syndrome (RCS) is defined as an inflammatory degenerative disorder of the musculotendinous cuff of the shoulder joint, or the long head of the biceps and the associated bursae. Symptoms include pain, weakness and loss of motion. Because so many suffer from RCS, we at Preferred Physical Therapy Associates utilize a wide array of interventions, all of which have been shown through research to yield positive results for those who suffer with chronic shoulder pain due to RCS. Remember that, in general, there are two primary phases in the recovery of shoulder pain: Phase One, where the goal is to decrease pain and

swelling; and Phase Two, where range of motion and strength are the focus. • Laser Therapy • Electrical Stimulation • Total Motion Release (TMR) • Ultrasound • Phonophoresis (ultrasound used to enhance the delivery of topically applied medication) • Manual Therapy • Joint Mobilization • Massage • Transverse Friction • Muscle Strengthening • Biomechanical and Posture Retraining With the help of our variety of treatment options, the professionals at Preferred Physical Therapy Associates have had great success in providing relief to our patients with Rotator Cuff Syndrome.
