Nation man arrested
GREGG CHAMBERLAIN gregg.chamberlain@eap.on.ca
A Nation area man, who was the third suspect wanted by police in relation to a homicide case in Orillia, is now in custody. Brian Quesnel, 28, was located in St- Barbe, Quebec, and taken into custody without incident on June 16. The arrest was a combined effort of the OPP and the Sûreté du Québec, including the SQ homicide, tactical, K9, and physical surveillance units. Quesnel is described in OPP inci- dent briefs as a resident of The Nation Municipality area with no specific com- munity given. He was the subject of a Canada-wide warrant, following OPP investigation of a shooting incident in Orillia on June 4. The victim in the shoot- ing incident, Joseph Simonds, 34, of Orillia, was later pronounced dead after he was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his wounds. Besides Quesnel, police have also arrested as suspects Sonny Brokenshire, 20, of Orillia, and Martin Forget, 41, of St-Barbe, QC. All three face charges of first-degree murder. Brokenshire and Forget had an ini- tial appearance in provincial court in Barrie, Ontario, and were remanded into custody pending their next court appearance.
