A Weekend in Lille Whatever the season, Lille is the perfect place for a short weekend break. Less than 1 ½ hours’ drive from Calais, why not use Lille as a base with further visits to the historic town of Arras and the beautiful centre of Ypres.

SHORT BREAK A Weekend in Arras Just 1 ¼ hours’ drive from Calais, the city of Arras is famous for the stunning architecture of its Grand Place & Place des Héros. Surrounded by houses built in the Flemish Baroque style, these squares are a stunning setting for the city’s bars, restaurants, cafés, shops and covered galleries, overlooked by the belfry of the town hall. As well as time spent browsing Arras’ markets, our tour includes a visit to the Carrière Wellington tunnels and a cruise through Amiens’ Floating Gardens.

CHRISTMAS IN ARRAS Arras hosts one of the region’s most popular Christmas Markets, please contact us if you would like to visit Arras during the festive period. WORLD WAR I BATTLEFIELDS With 2026 being the 110th Anniversary of the Battle of the Somme, please contact us if you require an itinerary for a World War I Battlefields theme. Hortillonnages , also known as the ‘Floating Gardens’. Exclusively visited by boats, this beautiful maze of water gardens is a wonderful sight. We spend the afternoon at leisure in Amiens, home to one of the largest classic Gothic churches of the 13th century. Day 4 Departure After breakfast, we begin our journey home. INCLUSIONS • Return short sea crossing • 75-minute guided tour of Carrière Wellington • 45-minute guided boat cruise of Les Hortillonnages Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel late afternoon, with time to explore this historic town. Day 2 Arras & Carrière Wellington We spend this morning in Arras, known for its two ornate squares. Today (Saturday) is market day in the architecturally beautiful Grand Place and Place des Héros. We then make the short journey to visit the Carrière Wellington museum, part of a network of tunnels used during World War I. Our guided tour takes us 20 metres underground via a lift shaft, where we learn more about their construction and the Battle of Arras. Day 3 Amiens & Les Hortillonnages We spend today in the city of Amiens, starting with a guided boat trip of Les

We spend this morning browsing the shops and bistros that line the windy cobbled streets of Lille old town. As Saturday is market day in the main square – Place Sébastopol – we can also browse the market stalls. In the afternoon we can visit the nearby city of Arras, known for its two ornate squares brimming with shops and restaurants, before returning to Lille early evening. Day 3 In Flanders Field This morning, we journey the short distance to the largest British & Commonwealth Cemetery, Tyne Cot. We then make our way to the beautiful town of Ypres for time at leisure before we visit the excellent In Flanders Field Museum. We return to our hotel in the late afternoon. Day 4 Departure After breakfast, we begin our journey home, with time to pause at a French hypermarket for some last-minute shopping.
