Today, Fausto will play host and take us out for a gentle walk around this friendly village . We enjoy a picnic with great company, food and wine ... and start to get into the relaxed ‘Paganella way of life’ in the mountains! Day 3 Bolzano, Otzi The Iceman and the Ritten Rennon Railway Today travel up to the beautiful South Tyrol capital of Bolzano, where we visit the South Tyrol Archaeological Museum to marvel at Otzi, the Iceman, a fully preserved pre- historic hunter found beneath a melting glacier in the Dolomites. After an hour’s guided tour, we enjoy free time in Bolzano to explore and have some lunch and perhaps a delicious strudel! In the afternoon, take the city’s cable car up to Sopra Bolzano and from there be thrilled on a unique, single gauge, historic train ride with magnificent views – alternatively drive up to Sopra Bolzano and just take the train from here. Day 4 Brenta Dolomites Loop Today enjoy a fantastic day driving through the spectacular Brenta National Park sector of the Italian Dolomites. Initially, we follow the Sole River up through the scenic ‘Val di Sole’ to Dimaro and from here climb up to the stylish town of Madonna di Campiglio. This fashionable mountain retreat boasts an array of designer shops, cafés and excellent restaurants frequented by the well-heeled ‘Milanesi’. Take some free time to explore and grab a bite to eat. As we depart Campiglio, we’ll get some great views of the jagged limestone peaks across the valley and then we loop round via Tione di Trento and the lovely lake at Molveno before heading back to our base, the Hotel Paganella. Day 5 Verona Today we travel to the romantic capital of Europe, Verona. Situated on the banks of the River Adige, it is perhaps best known for its association with Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and is one of northern Italy’s most attractive cities. Boasting a rich array of art and architecture, its heart is dominated by a mammoth, remarkably well-preserved 1st century Roman amphitheatre, the venue for the city’s annual summer opera festival. Verona is a shoppers’ paradise with something for everyone – from the daily market in Piazza delle Erbe to the stylish designer shops on Via Mazzini – while the Piazza Bra is the largest piazza in Verona, lined with numerous cafés and restaurants. Day 6 Departure After breakfast, we begin our journey home.

relaxed ‘Paganella way of life’ in the mountains! Day 3 Merano & South Tyrolean Wine Route

Today we arrive in one of Italy’s best kept secrets – stunning Merano! In true ‘Sound of Music’ fashion, this beautiful spa town sits nestled between the Dolomites. The town centre abounds with shops, restaurants and cafés oozing with delicious strudel. For a birds’ eye view of the city, take the chairlift up to the panoramic viewpoint. Try out some mouth-watering ‘speck’ in a local stube or tempt yourself with ‘sachertorte’ in one of the pastry shops! In the afternoon, we head to the ‘historic and family run winery Cantina Martinelli’, where we enjoy a tour and tasting – the South Tyrolean wines are so good they don’t export much as they prefer to keep them for themselves! Day 4 Scenic Drive of the Dolomites Today we drive north towards Moena, based in the heart of the Dolomites, and ascend towards the vibrant town of Canazei. From here it’s just a short drive to get to the ‘Sella Pass’, an incredible viewing platform, from where we can enjoy lunch and appreciate the amazing 360 degree views across the Dolomites’ spectacular jagged peaks. We continue down into the alluring Val Gardena, a historic valley known for its wood making traditions and unique and ancient language, Ladin, which is only spoken here. Enjoy a break in the picturesque village of Ortisei and relax over a delicious plate of strudel, or perhaps shop for one of the other local specialities – handmade cuckoo clocks! Day 5 Riva via Lake Molveno Our route this morning takes us past the lesser known but incredibly scenic Lake Molveno, and from here we enjoy the relaxing route taking us through to the back of Lake Garda. Riva offers a lakeside historic centre and is the most northerly point in Europe where olive trees grow! We have free time to explore Riva and perhaps enjoy a delicious lunch or drink in the main square. Day 6 Departure After breakfast, we begin our journey home.
